First off I love both bands. By that I mean I love SG and I love the band that was Billy, James, Darcy and Jimmy. Valid comments from the SG guys as we all know Billy Corgan is a self righteous arsehole but for a time he was writing some of the greatest music around and Siamese Dream is a work of genius in my eyes. I saw the Pumpkins 4 times and the last time they were awful. The first time I saw them I was blown away.
Soundgarden for me wrote one of, if not the best albums of all time, they had their problems then split. They've returned with a great album and last week I saw them for the 4th time and it was like they never left. The Pumpkins are no more. It's Billy with 3 others. I like their latest album but it isn't Smashing Pumpkins no more.
I'm sure both bands aren't doing it for the money but doing it for different reasons. SG are still the band they were, SP aren't that band I saw all those years ago now................but I'm sure Billy is the same arsehole

This is an interesting and common viewpoint, b/c out of all the big 90s acts still making music, I think they've kept their core sound more intact than all the others. I do miss Chamberlains drumming on the latest album but its still very Pumpkins-y.
I've never understood why people cling to the idea that the core Pumpkins are Billy, Jimmy, James and D'arcy. Why the Pumpkins have pretty much only been Billy and Jimmy. James and D'arcy contributed so little.
OK so James co-wrote Mayonaise and some guitar lines. But none of those define the Pumpkins sound or the rest of their catalog. So the outrage of Billy touring with scabs post Zwan has always been misplaced in my eyes. You an say that about the pumpkins now, I guess. But its really not that far off. You can even argue SP has always been a solo project for Billy at one point though he had one of the best drummers in the world.

Billy is a twat with delusions of grandeur
