UK-Phx-LA-Oak....
Hi All,
I'm coming over for the above shows.
I'm posting because any tips, help with where best to stay/convenient to the venue etc would be great. Also I'm not driving so location is a pretty big issue. Maybe hook up with some people.
I get into Phoenix on the 16th so some tips on things to do,places to visit would be great.
If anyone is heading from Phx to San Diego and could give a lift for petrol money I reckon I'd be crazy not to add in another show. Makes sense right?
I normally leave everything to the last minute so changing a habit of a lifetime feels pretty weird.
Thank you,
Tom

In L.A. stay downtown. It's a short cab ride or metro train to the venue. Here's further discussion:

in PHX, the venue is waaaaaaaaay far out in the suburbs. if you don't have a car you should plan on paying $75 or more to get there. fortunately, there are quite a few hotels right around the venue (plug in the address on google maps and search hotels and you'll find a dozen within a mile or so). Unfortunately, outside of the concert venue itself, there's not much to do out there. If I were arriving in PHX on the 16th and had 3 days (maybe longer) to kill here's what I would consider:
1) rent a car and drive up to the grand canyon. it's a little more than 3 hours from phoenix, but totally worth it. you can also spend a day/night up in flagstaff or Sedona. I promise, these are cool towns and you're probably going to enjoy them more than suburban phoenix. they probably have shuttles/bus service for this if you don't want to drive yourself.
2) prior to the show, get a hotel elsewhere in the phoenix area. Tempe (where the major university is) is a young bar/party crowd, Scottsdale is older and snootier, but still has a ton of bars and restaurants, and downtown phoenix is actually starting to come up. lots of small art galleries and venues for local shows if that's your thing. or if you're older and have money to burn, stay in one of the fancy resorts and go golfing. any of these spots would be probably $25 - 35 taxi from the airport.
if you go with any of the locations in option 2, you could probably get away without having a car. but phoenix is a very spread out place with lousy public transit, so if you're going to be car free you're going to want to pick one of those spots and stay there until the show, then find your way out there (go early, traffic is going to suuuuuuuuuuuck).
but I would NOT plan on getting a hotel for the whole time in phoenix out by the venue. you'll be bored as hell.I still can't figure out how to change my username...0 -
Thanks for this.
Definitely not getting a hotel near the venue.
Not a driver so Grand Canyon out but I did go back in 99 and quite simply the most breathtaking place I've ever visited. Awesome in the genuine sense of the word.Given To Live -
