The Beatles releasing new compilation of BBC performances November 11th

By Chris Welch on September 12, 2013 01:31 pm

Prepare for "new" music from the Fab Four. On November 11th, The Beatles will release a followup to their 1994 album Live at The BBC. On Air – Live at the BBC Volume 2 will include 63 tracks that hit the BBC airwaves between 1963 and 1964. None of the content here overlaps with the prior BBC compilation, according to a newly issued press release. Performances include 37 songs that are previously unreleased commercially, and fans will also hear 23 unreleased recordings of in-studio chatter between John, Paul, George, Ringo, and various radio hosts.

“There’s a lot of energy and spirit. We are going for it, not holding back at all, trying to put in the best performance of our lifetimes," said Paul McCartney of the compilation. The entire tracklist is now available at TheBeatles.com, and special pre-order bundles that toss in a t-shirt (or high quality lithograph) are also up for grabs. Of course, the new Beatles release will also be sold digitally via iTunes, marking the continuation of a partnership forged with Apple in 2009. For fans of physical media, On Air – Live at the BBC Volume 2 will be available in two-CD and vinyl packages. And lastly, the original Live at The BBC album has been given the same remastering treatment as the band's studio catalog and will be re-released alongside its follow-up on November 11th. Aside from straightforward remasters, The Beatles last released "new" music with the 2006 remix album Love, created for the Cirque du Soleil show of the same name.

I enjoy the first one, not one of my favorites though. But I will pick up the remastered version they're releasing to coincide with this release.

  • Will the first one get a repress as well as a reissue on CD?
  • Will the first one get a repress as well as a reissue on CD?

I don't know. I don't even see Vol. 1 on Beatles.com store at all, in CD or Vinyl form. They may have taken it off in favor of putting the new one up, and just don't have it up yet, but they have the Vol. 2 pre-order section up. Amazon does show the remastered CDs of Vol. 1 and the CDs of Vol. 2, but they don't have Vol. 2 or Vol. 1 remastered on vinyl up. All they have is the old Vol. 1 vinyl.

    Here's the tracklisting...

I can't promise that will be awesome. The 2 CD set is going to be $25.99, which is a little high for a 2 CD set. I remember buying the White Album reissue for $17.99 when it first came out. So they aren't letting this one go as cheap. I'll probably go with the Standard Bundle, with the T-shirt, that's $50. I don't have a Beatles T-Shirt anymore. The Deluxe Bundle I'll pass on, don't need a lithograph.

I want the vinyl for both volumes. Hopefully Amazon has a decent price.
