Question for those who've been GA before

I'm trying to get like dead center on the fence, or at least on mikes side. I understand that I wont be able to pee or anything and I'm okay with that. My question is how early do I have to line up to be pretty close to the front when the show starts? I scored GA for Pittsburgh and it's a bucket list thing of mine to be that close to the guys playing. Shocking right? haha

  • Are you referring to having a wristband?

Never been to a USA show, so prob not comparing like with like. But for any of the Euro shows Ive been to, I have been at the fence Mikes side. The sweetest place is just to the right of Mike. So you get a lot of Jeff and Ed as well.

Typically an hour before doors open is good. The very earliest I have been in line was about 2 hours. Its generally a scramble to the top. But in Manchester England, security had a great idea of getting all of us to sit down until the support act was about to come on. That stopped hours of needless pushing and made for a great atmosphere.

I fell like an hour before doors would be too late to get the rail, but I have no idea either. I'm trying to gauge when I should get to the venue in Buffalo.

I imagine I'll get there mid/late afternoon (say, 3:30/4:30) and wait until doors open. I'm guessing there will be a decent sized line by then, but I'm not super fussed about being on the rail, I just want to be inside 10 rows from the the stage.

But, perhaps showing up 3 hours before doors will do..... or maybe I'll be midway back on the floor if I show up then..... not sure. And who knows if there will be only one line for GA . . . what's to stop people from lining up at ANY gate? That might be a venue specific thing that you'd need to call them about. I plan on trying to find that out for Buffalo....

An hour before doors will not nearly be early enough if you want to run to the rail. I remember lining up for shows 4-5 hours before doors and people were still there earlier. At Wrigley people camped out all day long.

If it's a bucket list thing, I'd honestly say go down early in the morning to scope it out and plan to spend the day there.

  • I haven't done this since '96; then it was just push your way through the pit, so no help here. However, just wanted to say it's impressive anyone who can pull this kind of thing off without a diaper. Very impressive.

    Good luck!

(I would add that an hour won't be enough, an hour before the show there's already a half hour line up for posters)
  • I also can not see happening to be on the fence if you show up 1 hour before doors open....at least in europe, theres is no chance....Usually people are camping in line the whole day, and then storm in when the doors open....Myself, i am drinking beer in meantime, and go in easily after there is no more line.....and still get very decent spot within 10 rows, Mike side.....I am allways weighting between being front row(no drinking), or 10th row(drinking), and so far always the second option won;)) not sure how it will be in US though...maybe I will be able to pull 1 out of 4 shows being 1st row;))

I guess its different in Europe. Mind you I did get to the venue at 2.30pm in Belfast 2010. And there I dothed received the holy grail!! ;)

an hour before doors won't be enough for the rail. it'll get you a good spot (I'd say 3rd or 4th row), but not the rail. I think the US is a bit less crazy than Europe regarding this, so you won't need to camp out, but I'd go there in the early am if you really want the rail.
  • Thanks everyone I appreciate the feedback! I talked to my buddy earlier and we will be there early! So pumped for this show, I cannot sleep at night :)
