    pearl jam is first.
  • Yeah PJ is definitely the opener (unfortunately)
I'm assuming we get an hour...MAYBE an hour and a half from PJ at the most...does anyone know if there will be boots at the Petty shows?

they are co-headliners. not openers. Jeff has said they get 90 minutes, which probably means they will play a tad more than that.

    It will be cool.

They might be co-headliners, but they are still going to be hitting the stage first which means they are the opening act.

90mins or whatever it will be. Its gonna be something different. And I'm sure they will join petty for some songs. No matter what its gonna be a fun time.

it's semantics I guess. Usually an opening act plays 45 minutes. PJ will play longer than that.

Just because you go on first doesn't make you an opening act, in the music biz.

It's a co-headlining gig. someone has to go on first. but they will get equal time and equal billing. so, technically, there is no opening act.

They are going on first means they are opening, which means Petty is the main attraction, I'm not sure how many people are going to these concerts but I would think more Pearl Jam fans will be there and Pearl Jam should be the closing band. Petty was good, but I think Pearl Jam is better than Tom Petty, although Tom is a legend, thats why he is going last, just like neal young would play after PJ its a respect thing I think,

This points out a strength of PJ's. They're respectful. PJ could have easily said no, but instead, they're probably honored and excited to be doing these shows with Petty. I am not a huge Petty fan...I'd much rather be seeing Pearl Jam close out the shows, but I think they'll be amazing shows. I'm sure they'll play some amazing encores.
    Cheers!

Doesn't Petty have a DVD coming out about this tour? I hope PJ is a part of it!

    agreed.

the part or the show i am looking forward to is the encores.. certain to be the highlight with mr petty and mr vedder singing songs from both sides of the aisles.. should be a best time for all.. guaranteed!! :)
Down the street you can hear her scream youre a disgrace
As she slams the door in his drunken face
    And now he stands outside
And all the neighbours start to gossip and drool
He cries oh, girl you must be mad,
What happened to the sweet love you and me had?
Against the door he leans and starts a scene,
And his tears fall and burn the garden green

10c says they are co-headlining and both playing "full" sets. I agree with the respect thing. they respect their elders.

Pearl Jam will have maximum of 80 minutes.

Petty will play for 2 hours.

That is the way Petty's "coheadlining" shows have been for the past couple of years and that's the way it'll be.

There will not be more Pearl Jam fans there than Petty fans.

Everyone here is in a little bubble of Pearl Jam and thinks Pearl Jam is king and everyone loves them. You'll be amazed at how many people arent even in the venue for Pearl Jam's set. Watch.

Petty is good too, he far exceeded my expectations, not sure if I expect to see any collaboration during his set though.

I think for the Milwaukee shows its gonna be very special. Petty loves summerfest and PJ haven't been there since 1995. Opening two nites what a way to kick off Summerfest. Its gonna be good. The fans will be there both for petty and pj. Summerfest crowds love live outdoor music. Its what we live for .
