SEGOVILLE -- Aaron Arias, 19, and Jamal Harris, 17, are best friends with the same interests.

First, superheroes. The pair has tattoos from their favorite characters to prove it. They got them together.

But their other passion is their shared enthusiasm for the opposite sex.

Like the woman who caught Harris’ eye the night of August 22, as they drove to pick up a friend late that night in Seagoville, where both teens are from.

“I was like ‘Oh man, look at this lady, she's hot! Like look, she's attractive!’” Harris said.

She was sitting in the backseat of a car stopped next to them at a stop sign.

“And then we made eye contact, and I see this serious expression on her face. What she was trying to say was serious," Harris said. "And I read her lips and she was like, 'help me.’”

This was no game or comic book.

“They drive right in front of us and I see her touch the back windshield, and I saw her face and that's when I knew we had to go after them,” Arias said.

They started following the car and called 911.

Officers say the man driving the car was a true villain -- Charles Atkins Lewis Jr., who police say kidnapped the woman in downtown Dallas off Bryan Street, and forced her into her car.

“He was driving crazy, swerving and everything,” Arias said. “And at one point he started turning on and off his lights, so we knew that he knew he was being followed.”

It was 20 frantic minutes until they reached the city of Kaufman, where the cops finally cornered the suspect. The woman, now safe, got to thank the dynamic duo.

“The hugs, the tears, like, she was crying because she was beyond grateful,” Arias said.

And to think, it started with looking for girls, and ended with these guys likely saving a life.

“You don't need a cape to be a hero," Harris said. "You just have to be yourself and just respond."

Lewis remains in custody with a $50,000 bond.

  • Amazing.
    ~Carter~

You can spend your time alone, redigesting past regrets, oh
or you can come to terms and realize
you're the only one who can't forgive yourself, oh
makes much more sense to live in the present tense

I love hearing about things like this.

    Bravo to the young men!

(I also have to wonder how this might've ended up differently had the girl not been attractive)

(I also have to wonder about the bond...only $50K for kidnapping with the intent of who knows what?)

That was miraculous good luck for her that the teens were brave enough to pay attention and help her.
