  • yeah that song is pretty compelling. really creeps me out. cash was a master.

the video i posted is the most sanitized of the ones on youtube. most of them have disclaimers and you have to log in to prove you are over 18. there is a lot of atrocites in those videos.

the one i wanted to post was showing the syrian conflict, but people have to log in to view that one...

all i can say is, thank you for sharing with us & thank you for putting the sanitized version up. true though i can't log onto youtube as i am not a member. still though, those war scenes & whatnot are horrific & i'd rather steer clear.

i can dig cash's music. i'm more of a waylon guy myself. both are incredible

war is nothing more than cruelty on a massive scale, and people are the cruelest of all animals.

that's a good one. had never heard it before.

i can see how war and being related to someone going to fight a war is a powerful inspiration.

Nice selection folks. Always good to hear some Johnny and some Waylon.

    Here's one from Uncle Neil:

    LIVING WITH WAR

    I'm living with war everyday
I'm living with war in my heart every day
I'm living with war right now

And when the dawn breaks I see my fellow man
And on the flat-screen we kill and we're killed again
And when the night falls, I pray for peace
    Try to remember peace (visualize)

    I join the multitudes
I raise my hand in peace
I never bow to the laws of the thought police
    I take a holy vow
    To never kill again
    To never kill again

I'm living with war in my heart
I'm living with war in my heart in my mind
I'm living with war right now

    Don't take no tidal wave
    Don't take no mass grave
    Don't take no smokin' gun
To show how the west was won
But when the curtain falls, I pray for peace
    Try to remember peace (visualize)

    In the crowded streets
    In the big hotels
In the mosques and the doors of the old museum
    I take a holy vow
    To never kill again
    Try to remember peace

    The rocket's red glare
    Bombs bursting in air
    Give proof through the night,
That our flag is still there

    I'm living with war everyday
I'm living with war in my heart every day
I'm living with wat right now

    If we aren't bombing...

    ...and we aren't invading...

...and the chemical weapons are going to be rounded up and destroyed...

...should we be singing Hail To The Chief?

Hail to the Chief we have chosen for the nation,
Hail to the Chief! We salute him, one and all.
Hail to the Chief, as we pledge cooperation
In proud fulfillment of a great, noble call.

Yours is the aim to make this grand country grander,
This you will do, that's our strong, firm belief.
Hail to the one we selected as commander,
Hail to the President! Hail to the Chief!

Yeah. You would recognize the melody if you heard it. Pretty common before presidential addresses and in film/television.

megadeth - "holy wars...the punishment due"
http://youtu.be/-HhX7xx1v8s - "rude awakening" a fucking great live album

    Brother will kill brother
    Spilling blood across the land
    Killing for religion
    Something I don't understand

Fools like me, who cross the sea
    And come to foreign lands
Ask the sheep, for their beliefs
Do you kill on God's command?

    A country that's divided
    Surely will not stand
My past erased, no more disgrace
    No foolish naive stand

The end is near, it's crystal clear
    Part of the master plan
    Don't look now to Israel
It might be in your homelands

    Holy wars

    Upon my podium, as the
    Know it all scholar
Down in my seat of judgement
    Gavel's bang, uphold the law
Up on my soapbox, a leader
    Out to change the world
Down in my pulpit as the holier
    Than-thou-could-be-messenger of God

Wage the war on organized crime
Sneak attacks, repel down the rocks
    Behind the lines
Some people risk to employ me
Some people live to destroy me
    Either way they die.

They killed my wife, and my baby
    With hopes to enslave me
    First mistake...last mistake!
Paid by the alliance, to slay all the giants
    Next mistake...no more mistakes!

Fill the cracks in, with judicial granite
    Because I don't say it, don't mean I ain't
    thinking it
Next thing you know, they'll take my thoughts away
I know what I said, now I must scream of the overdose
And the lack of mercy killings.

  • PEACE THE FUCK OUT

Now I don't know that your tie is straight
Your words are crooked and you're gonna pay
In ten years time they're gonna say
That this was the moment when you threw it away

And it's all wrong, handbags at dawn
And turn the radio off to hear a song
    Oh please don't give up
You have a voice, don't lose it
You have a choice, so choose it
You have a brain, so use it
    The time has come to
    Peace the fuck out

Now I don't know what you're talking about
There's too much shit pouring out of your mouth
The time is up, the secret's out
The truth's gonna catch you when you're going south

But it's all wrong, handbags at dawn
And turn the radio off to hear a song
    Oh please don't give up
You have a voice, so use it

Yeah but it's all wrong, handbags at dawn
And turn the radio off to hear a song
    Oh please don't give up
You have a voice, don't lose it
You have a choice, so choose it
You have a brain, so use it

With wars swirling all around from every angle, it maybe time to take breath for peace. This one is an instrumental from my days as a DJ in NYC Brooklyn and in college. Does anybody remember The Hustle?

We would remix this song till it played for 20 minutes sometimes.

This one goes out to those in the Ukraine who "shoot without shame".....

    Territories....RUSH

I see the Middle Kingdom between Heaven and Earth
Like the Chinese call the country of their birth
We all figure that our homes are set above
Other people than the ones we know and love

In every place with a name
They play the same territorial game
    Hiding behind the lines
    Sending up warning signs

    The whole wide world
    An endless universe
    Yet we keep looking through
    The eyeglass in reverse
    Don't feed the people
    But we feed the machines
    Can't really feel
    What international means

    In different circles
    We keep holding our ground
    Indifferent circles
We keep spinning round and round

We see so many tribes - overrun and undermined
While their invaders dream of lands they've left behind
Better people - better food - and better beer
Why move around the world when Eden was so near?

The bosses get talking so tough
And if that wasn't evil enough
We get the drunken and passionate pride
Of the citizens along for the ride

    They shoot without shame
In the name of a piece of dirt
    For a change of accent
Or the colour of your shirt
    Better the pride that resides
In a citizen of the world
    Than the pride that divides
When a colourful rag is unfurled

Brian, I've lots of time on my hands and I've been going through my vast inventory of RUSH music. Then came across Territories and recalling how well it was played on their most recent Clockwork Angels tour. Revisited the lyrics and yes wow this can also represent what is going on in Gaza.

Post some other ones people, we need to put some focus on achieving peace across the big pond.

Anti war - Vietnam war era, but a general questioning of war....

    "For America"

As if I really didn't understand
That I was just another part of their plan
I went off looking for the promise
    Believing in the Motherland
And from the comfort of a dreamer's bed
And the safety of my own head
I went on speaking of the future
While other people fought and bled
The kid I was when I first left home
Was looking for his freedom and a life of his own
But the freedom that he found wasn't quite as sweet
    When the truth was known
    I have prayed for America
    I was made for America
It's in my blood and in my bones
    By the dawn's early light
By all I know is right
We're going to reap what we have sown

As if freedom was a question of might
As if loyalty was black and white
You hear people say it all the time-
    "My country wrong or right"
I want to know what that's got to do
With what it takes to find out what's true
With everyone from the President on down
Trying to keep it from you

The thing I wonder about the Dads and Moms
Who send their sons to the Vietnams
Will they really think their way of life
Has been protected as the next war comes?
    I have prayed for America
    I was made for America
Her shining dream plays in my mind
    By the rockets red glare
    A generation's blank stare
We better wake her up this time

The kid I was when I first left home
Was looking for his freedom and a life of his own
But the freedom that he found wasn't quite as sweet
    When the truth was known
    I have prayed for America
    I was made for America
I can't let go till she comes around
Until the land of the free
    Is awake and can see
And until her conscience has been found

A short and poignant song, with lyrics taken from an interview with Harry Patch, a veteran from the first world war, and put to music by Radiohead:

I am the only one that got through
The others died where ever they fell
    It was an ambush
They came up from all sides
Give your leaders each a gun and then let them fight it out themselves
I’ve seen devils coming up from the ground
I’ve seen hell upon this earth
The next will be chemical but they will never learn.

^^^ Another great one, Nancy. excellent!

Phil Ochs- I Ain't Marchin' Anymore

Oh I marched to the battle of New Orleans
At the end of the early British war
    The young land started growing
    The young blood started flowing
    But I ain't marchin' anymore

For I've killed my share of Indians
    In a thousand different fights
I was there at the Little Big Horn
    I heard many men lying
    I saw many more dying
    But I ain't marchin' anymore

It's always the old to lead us to the war
It's always the young to fall
Now look at all we've won with the sabre and the gun
Tell me is it worth it all

For I stole California from the Mexican land
Fought in the bloody Civil War
Yes I even killed my brother
    And so many others
    And I ain't marchin' anymore

For I marched to the battles of the German trench
In a war that was bound to end all wars
Oh I must have killed a million men
And now they want me back again
    But I ain't marchin' anymore

    (chorus)

For I flew the final mission in the Japanese sky
Set off the mighty mushroom roar
When I saw the cities burning
I knew that I was learning
    That I ain't marchin' anymore

Now the labor leader's screamin' when they close the missile plants,
United Fruit screams at the Cuban shore,
Call it "Peace" or call it "Treason,"
Call it "Love" or call it "Reason,"
But I ain't marchin' any more.

i never heard that one before - it's sad how so many of the folk era songs are still relevant today.
i'm leaving for cape cod with my mother today for two weeks - getting away from memories & circumstances still fresh and being here is emotionally unhealthy - but we're not packed yet - we'll arrive in the dark; doesn't matter
Here's one more that came to mind right away...

    Eve of Destruction

The eastern world it is exploding
    Violence flarin', bullets loadin'
You're old enough to kill but not for votin'
You don't believe in war but what's that gun you're totin'
And even the Jordan River has bodies floatin'

    But you tell me
Over and over and over again my friend
    Ah you don't believe
We're on the eve of destruction

Don't you understand what I'm trying to say?
Can't you feel the fears I'm feeling today?
If the button is pushed there's no running away
There'll be no one to save with the world in a grave
Take a look around you boy
It's bound to scare you boy

    And you tell me
Over and over and over again my friend
    Ah you don't believe
We're on the eve of destruction

Yeah my blood's so mad, feels like coagulatin'
    I'm sitting here just contemplatin'
I can't twist the truth, it knows no regulation
Handful of senators don't pass legislation
And marches alone can't bring integration
    When human respect is disintegratin'
This whole crazy world is just too frustratin'

    And you tell me
Over and over and over again my friend
    Ah you don't believe
We're on the eve of destruction.

Think of all the hate there is in Red China
Then take a look around to Selma, Alabama
You may leave here for four days in space
But when you return it's the same old place
The pounding of the drum the pride and disgrace
You can bury your dead but don't leave a trace
Hate your next-door neighbor but don't forget to say grace

And tell me over and over and over and over again my friend
    You don't believe
We're on the eve of destruction
    Ah, you don't believe
We're on the eve of destruction

megadeth - "holy wars...the punishment due"
http://youtu.be/-HhX7xx1v8s - "rude awakening" a fucking great live album

    Brother will kill brother
    Spilling blood across the land
    Killing for religion
    Something I don't understand

Fools like me, who cross the sea
    And come to foreign lands
Ask the sheep, for their beliefs
Do you kill on God's command?

    A country that's divided
    Surely will not stand
My past erased, no more disgrace
    No foolish naive stand

The end is near, it's crystal clear
    Part of the master plan
    Don't look now to Israel
It might be in your homelands

    Holy wars

    Upon my podium, as the
    Know it all scholar
Down in my seat of judgement
    Gavel's bang, uphold the law
Up on my soapbox, a leader
    Out to change the world
Down in my pulpit as the holier
    Than-thou-could-be-messenger of God

Wage the war on organized crime
Sneak attacks, repel down the rocks
    Behind the lines
Some people risk to employ me
Some people live to destroy me
    Either way they die.

They killed my wife, and my baby
    With hopes to enslave me
    First mistake...last mistake!
Paid by the alliance, to slay all the giants
    Next mistake...no more mistakes!

Fill the cracks in, with judicial granite
    Because I don't say it, don't mean I ain't
    thinking it
Next thing you know, they'll take my thoughts away
I know what I said, now I must scream of the overdose
And the lack of mercy killings.

Wow - this is poetry, violent & real.

    Generals gathered in their masses
Just like witches at black masses
    Evil minds that plot destruction
    Sorcerers of death's construction
In the fields the bodies burning
As the war machine keeps turning
    Death and hatred to mankind
    Poisoning their brainwashed minds
    Oh lord yeah!

    Politicians hide themselves away
    They only started the war
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor

Time will tell on their power minds
    Making war just for fun
Treating people just like pawns in chess
Wait 'til their judgement day comes
    Yeah!

Now in darkness world stops turning
    Ashes where the bodies burning
No more war pigs have the power
Hand of God has struck the hour
Day of judgement, God is calling
On their knees the war pig's crawling
    Begging mercy for their sins
    Satan laughing spreads his wings
    Oh lord yeah!

    Of course!!!

    "I'm Alive" By anthrax

    Look into my holy eyes
    An empty smile
    And you're hypnotized
    Selling lies my enterprise
The sheep just get in line
    Capitulate so easily
    The power of fear
    That I'm trafficking
Years of sleep have made you blind
I made the bed your in

As I lead the child to war again
    Heaven lives in every gun
    I damn you

I'm alive to be the demon
I'm alive to be the one
    Yeah yeah yeah yeah
    Hell it lives in everyone

When your world has slipped away
And all you have is me to pay
Once so proud you beg for more
And spread you legs like some dirty whore

As I lead the child to war again
    Heaven lives in every gun
    I damn you

I'm alive to be the demon
I'm alive to be the one
    Yeah yeah yeah yeah
    Hell it lives in everyone

I'm alive to be the demon
I'm alive to be the one
    Yeah yeah yeah yeah
    Hell it lives

    I'm invited...
    I'm invited in
    One nation under...
    One nation under me

As I lead the child to war again
As I lead the child to war again
As I lead the child to war again
Heaven lives, lives in every gun

I'm alive to be the demon
I'm alive to be the one
    Yeah yeah yeah yeah
    Hell it lives in everyone

I'm alive to be the demon
I'm alive to be the one
    Yeah yeah yeah yeah
    Hell it lives in everyone

I'm alive to be the demon
I'm alive to be the one
    Yeah yeah yeah yeah
    Hell it lives in everyone
