Vinyl Swap

Would anyone be interested in doing a vinyl swap once a month? You and a partner send each other one, or multiple albums (within a set price range, say $25-30ish). No rules really. You can share items on your wishlist so you know you're going to like what you get, or you can just provide a general idea of what sort of music you're into and be surprised each month. If you receive a duplicate of something you already own, you can just send it back with your next one. Anyone every done anything like that?

There was this a while ago... viewtopic.php?f=20&t=150743&hilit=vinyl+swap

I'd be down if there was an element of the unknown.

  • cool! not sure how I missed 35 pages of that other thread :?
    So, what's everyone's opinion?
Do we want to continue to operate like the last thread where you're sending to different people each time or just choose a "pen pal" and swap between each other each month?

There seems to be about the same amount of interest now as when that last thread was petering out.

Sounds like fun and if I had more discretionary income to participate monthly I'd be in but my record buying is limited right now to just the "must haves".

(I know- need want  )

I'd be very interested in giving this a go once or twice, but to be honest an additional $25-30 a month may get to be a bit much for most people, myself included.

How about a secondary swap for those on a tight budget: Swap good but inexpensive 45 RPM singles?

I don't want to get into something like this every month (even though it's a good idea :) ), but I do have 2 Black Keys albums that I don't want, so if anyone wants to swap those with something they have that would be awesome. I've got Brothers and The Big Come Up. Have no idea if The Big Come Up is a repress or not. It was just bought off of Amazon last year, so probably. Anyway, I know this isn't what this thread is for, but I think that just swapping used albums from our collection would be a good way for us to get rid of what we don't listen to and get some stuff that we do! :D

This is basically all I'm talking about doing...no one would be forced to shell out cash each time they traded with someone. It could be an older album already in your collection that you're willing to part with. I was just aiming to keep a somewhat standard dollar value on the trades. Anyway, not sure there's enough interest in this or not. But I for one would be willing to partner up with someone and make a few swaps and see where it goes.

I understand the partnering up, because otherwise we'd all be left sitting with our thumbs up our butts, and may as well be in the Lost Dogs forum asking people to trade.... But I wouldn't personally want to get into such a partnership because it just is difficult to bail, and people are probably just a little resistant because of the obligation it puts them under. And perhaps some concern about sending good shit and getting total crap in return if a deal isn't actually brokered each time. But that's just my thought.... I'm sure there are people on the boards who would be into this... it's a bit like an ongoing Secret Santa but not secret. :P

Totally get it, and yea, receiving crap while giving good shit, is an obvious concern  However I have faith that most of the vinyl junkies around these parts have great taste and could potentially introduce me to some music I may otherwise, may not have ever stumbled upon.
