I'm digging it. I loved the vibe from the Born and Raised album and this just continues it. It's almost impossible to be in a bad mood when listening to Wildfire. Such a great song.

Struggling to get into this one --- love Born and Raised but this might need some growing on me still . . .

Agreed. Not nearly as good as B&R. And wish he had left the Katy Perry song off. That's simply terrible. Also not sure what the need for the 2nd Wildfire song was. Doesn't seem to fit and really isn't that great. There are some great songs on here, but clearly the worst of all his albums in totality. It starts strong and ends strong, but somehow loses it's way in the middle. Seems like this was either an EP or something that should have waited to be released until he had more songs (did I mention that Katy Perry song is god awful?).

(Also extremely disappointing after seeing him at Crossroads Fest. I think he needs to put out a straight guitar hero album next and not worry about alienating his teeny-bopper fans.)
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.

Still gotta listen to it in full. Heard bits and pieces of it, and my opinions of the songs ranged from 'YES I LOVE THIS' to 'complete shit'...so we'll see! Super duper pumped to see him live next weekend and then again next month. Will be my 3rd and 4th time catching him live. His live shows are spectacular and I'd recommend them to anyone!

I think this guy is a tremendous guitar player, but lately he tries way to hard to be a hippie. We all know what you looked like when you first came out John, your not fooling anyone... haha....your no hippy.

cool that u recognize his guitar talents but let me say this about your comment about him trying to be a hippy

all musicians with long careers usually grow as artists, performers and song writers. so yes, he is a hippy now, and so what! lol

like john, i also wasn't a super cool hippy when i was younger, but things changed. i really don't think john did himself any injustice by starting out the way he did. and btw how does "what you looked like" have anything to do with what is really important(talent)?

the show i saw this summer was sold out, 14000 people(same as last time he was in town). a ton of new fans and some old ones as well. father and son teams etc

bottomline is the show was incredible. his talents as a singer/songwriter/guitar player are huge. his guitar playing was out of this world great. it was probably my 5-6 time seeing him and he is getting better and better. i noticed this time around that there was looser feel to the show and that meant more jamming. which i LOVED.

so please let him, or anyone else, carry the freak flag, cause there juss ain't enough of us around these days ;)

    especially cool was:
who says>waiting on the day(trippy)>GDTRFB>slow dancing in a burning room

i like the new cd and have only listened to it twice. sometimes it takes seeing the songs live to make the connection from meh to wow. also i find that most records need to be spun 10 times until you can properly comment. in the end, as music/guitar lovers we are all better off for having john mayer around.

I love how he's matured. His first few albums are pretty much unlistenable to me now, but starting with Try! he's made me respect his songcraft. I loved Born and Raised and this one is right up there with it. Paper Doll is a great song and the video is a riot. The prancercize gal does her thing.

Saw John last night and just have to say--if you can still catch him this tour, GO! I've seen him 3 times (twice in 2010) and this was probably the best out of the 3 shows. New songs translated really well live, better than I anticipated. He is so talented and absolutely shines live. So excited to see him again at Global Citizen later this month :)

Sam, just curious, did any of the new songs stand out in particular to you? I've mentioned before on here but I've known John since we were 12 or 13 years old. Haven't seen him in awhile because of his throat issues and not being able to tour but he invited me to the Jones Beach show. Unfortunately I had to go out of town and wasn't able to make it but I'd really like to hear some of these new songs live, "Age of Worry" and "Walt Grace" are two in particular. I've heard and read great things about the tour from people that have gone to shows. Sounds like the band he's assembled is really cohesive.

That is way cool! I caught John at Jones in 2010 (as well as MSG). Hit VA yesterday, as I go to school in MD. Those two are some of my favorites off of Born & Raised, too! 2 nights ago he finally played Walt Grace, I was hoping he'd play it again last night but no dice. He did play Age of Worry, though, which was one of my highlights. I enjoyed all the really new Paradise Valley songs (last night he played On The Way Home, Wildfire, Waiting on the Day, and Call Me the Breeze), Waiting On The Day and Call me the Breeze in particular. I really enjoy the album for the most part. I'm digging the folky, CSNY side of him. It suits him a lot better than I thought. It's cool when he incorporates his blues style into that, too. Highlights other than that were Slow Dancing In A Burning Room (a top 3 song of his for me that I'd never gotten live previously), Vultures, Covered In Rain (requested by fan in the front row after John announced he met him earlier and it was his 52nd JM show), and Neon. His banter was hilarious last night, too. The band was tight as well. In my 3 shows, I've seen 3 different bands, and while I miss the Steve Jordan/David Ryan Harris line-up, this one was super.

Great stuff, appreciate the reply. I'm interested in hearing this new material live, I haven't heard any of it other than bootlegs/live videos, etc.

So awesome that he played Covered In Rain, that's a top 3 for me, maybe my favorite song he's written. Got him to play it in Chicago a few years back which was really cool. I completely agree with you, Slow Dancing is a top song, and incredible live. Such a great song.

I LOVED the trio tour with Steve Jordan and Pino and David Ryan Harris is a friend of mine so it's strange to not see him up on stage with John but I've just heard great things about this current band from friends of mine that have gone to the shows. Guess it's what fits what he's trying to do right now so that's pretty cool. Hoping to get to a show in the next month or so, maybe even the festival in NYC if I can swing that.

I've had weird luck with Covered In Rain...this was the 2nd time in 3 shows I've heard it! He played it at Jones when it started to drizzle a bit. Not complaining!

Gonna bus home with some friends for Global Citizen, excited to see him there in a couple of weeks! Hoping I'll hear Born & Raised (the song), my favorite off that album. And thinking he could play Belief at this concert. Haven't heard either of those yet!
