I wonder if they will get run out of town the same way Boston ran Tim Thomas out when he made a choice to not go to the white house?
  • what do you expect? these are old men who in this day and age are typically republicans.

Some of the reactions to this have been...interesting and amusing.

I give kudos to anyone who respectfully stands by their beliefs.

"I don't want to do that. I just don't believe in this administration at all. So I don't belong. Anyone on the left or the right has to respect one man's opinion," he said.

    And there ya go.

The 1972 Miami Dolphins' 15 minutes of fame has now lasted for more than 40 years. Please, for the love of all that is holy, go away.

Ronald Reagan's approval rating dropped as low as 43% and was only 53% when he left office yet people nowadays think he was the greatest statesman of the 20th century.

There are LOTS of things I don't like about Obama but I think approval ratings are kind of meaningless. I don't think 3 1972 NFL champs skipping the White House means a whole lot either.

Obama's approval rating is currently around what its average has been the last few years. There was a peak last December. I can't remember if it was from good economic news or maybe people were confused about him saving his neighbor from a burning building.

dude, obama is a popular president. look at any second termer at this point in his second term.

45% approval rating is a hell of a lot higher than the 8% enjoyed by congress and the less than 20% enjoyed by john boehner.

This is just stupid. You can't meet/talk to someone unless you agree with them politically?

Stupid dolphins. I hope someone goes undefeated this year.

I disagree. I don't see what is wrong with celebrating historic teams.

I don't have a problem with celebrating historic teams either. But the '72 Dolphins and their champagne toast after the final undefeated team loses its first game every season is a little too much to stomach.

Didn't this team lose the Super Bowl? I thought they were undefeated in regular season and lost in playoffs.

I also noticed they were all linemen.

The thread is wrong. It is not NO dolphins, but THREE dolphins. The attendees were approximately 3 dozen. That is 3 out of 36 who didn't go. So by Fox News's logic, it should read "Obama's Approval Rating of the 72 Dolphins is 92%!"

  • I hated Bush as much as anyone but I'd never turn down a trip to the White House. That is one of the highest honors you can have in this country and very very few get that privilage. It's not a political visit but an honor for your indivisual accomplishment.

I remember saying the same thing to friends when Tim Thomas didn't go in 2011.

A visit to the White House is like being Knighted by the Queen. Nothing really political about it. What makes it political is when people turn down the invite and draw attention to your politics. Sports is the ONE thing that politics seems to stay out of and I like to keep it that way.

But sports - like anything - are made up of people. They turned down the invite in a way that was respectful not only to the inviter but to the stances upon which those particular invitees chose not to attend.

Why is this such a brouhaha? Let 'em be. I've seen assholes in the so-called public eye not get half the attention or judgments tossed toward these men.

(as for honor or being knighted? No thanks. True honor, integrity...they come from within and they sure as hell don't need outside / impersonal validation)

There's everything political about allowing yourself to be adopted by the establishment. This is probably the reason why many people have rejected knighthood's by the Queen.
