I just got a PM from Eddie and believe it or not, he said he has been really looking at my posts for a long time and he said I made alot of sense, but at this point he cannot change parties in public so he will try to be a closet-libertarian in the upcoming elections. He also said I was right about many things and he said he has to remain in the closet on many of the stances i ask him to take.

So I responded, Thank you for being humble and honest. I know you are in the spotlight and you cannot change any positions as that will make you look weak and shallow, so I will keep it a little secret between you and I and I will continue to support you and the band. In my heart, I will always know that you are for limiting this damn govt. growth!

Thanks and God bless you Eddie!

Yup, just like Paul Ryan listens to rage against the machine. :fp:

PJ IS politics. If you can't handle the ranting of a political band, stay home.

?????? they're political ideas didn't make them rich and famous...it was their music and his voice (one of the best in music over all) and sense you said it "stay home" that could very well happen with many fans and it's a shame because the band is one of the greats, right up there with Zep the Beatles etc. and a bands involvment in ploitics always ends with a memory of their music not their political ideas.

    Godfather.

 When a band's songs drip with a message, albeit a social one ("No Way", W.M.A, Unemployable, Glorified G, Do the Evolution, Green Disease, Jeremy, Better Man, Given to Fly, Rats, Whale Song) or a political one (Bushleauguer, World Wide Suicide, Grievance, Marker in the Sand, Dissident), it is the fans who are fooled into thinking they don't sing about big issues "that they don't want to hear".

Bottom line, if you don't like the overall politics or social message, stay home. Because their politics actually HAVE made them famous.

i can't really think of any lines in any of the songs you mention, possibly save Bushleaguer, that deal with any sort of partsian political hackery in an overt sense. I think what the OP was getting at is that there is a discrepancy between the nearly UNIVERSAL appeal of messages REGARDING THE HUMAN CONDITION -- **GENERALLY** ... songs about pessimism over continual greed and war, songs about true religion vs. the garment or vestiges of it only, songs about the hypocrisy of the modern world, songs about the environment and man... there is a discrepancy between the universal nature of the message in these songs AND THE INHERENTLY DIVISIVE, SMALL MINDED, ONE-SIDED, FINGER-POINTING, PETTY PARTISAN SNOBBERY that is ***SOMETIMES*** apparent when eddie speaks.

To be honest, it seems there is less and less of this coming out of Ed's mouth, but it does still surface on occasion (especially in presidential election years) ...

The OP never said Eddie (or the band) can't have a political theme to their art, or that they can't have their own pointed political views. What the OP DID SAY was that they wished Eddie would KEEP IT CLASSY, STAY FOCUSED ON LARGE ISSUES, AND WORK TO ***UNITE EVERYONE*** INSTEAD OF DIVIDE THEM over political lines that have no real substantive nature and are merely representative of an Hegelian dialectical approach to managing the opinions of the masses.

To simplify: the elite could give two flying fucks what side of the political spectrum you are on. They only ask that you pick one or the other. The Democratic Party has QUITE OVERTLY been the "Thesis" party for some time, while the Republican Party has been the Anti-Thesis platform. Both parties have and continue to be used to drive the United States (and the entire world) in to a future Synthesis. Eddie's outrage over the Republican party seems to have more to do with the emotional and intellectual state of those souls drawn to the Anti-Thesis party ... but I submit to you that there is no substantive difference between where these two parties are taking the country. In fact, the task of driving us towards the synthesis could not be accomplished with out the help of BOTH parties. The emotional and mental will of the Anti-Thesis party are at times REQUIRED to further the real agenda when the will and emotional state of the Thesis party simply will not allow completion of some given task. A primary example could be sited in the Iraq and Afghan wars initiated by Bush and "the Right". It was needed for the "Republican" party to be in power for this, since the socio-emotional will of the Left's BASE is largely anti-war.

When looking at "the left" and "the right", it is usually necessary (for a truer understanding) to seperate the emotions and wills of THE BASE from those of THE PARTY. By this i mean that the emotions and wills of those who support any given party (the people themselves) are the things that ARE USED by "the party" and the elite to drive their platforms. The platforms themselves are set up by the elite to be complementary and used in succession, one at a time, to accomplish the varying goals of the underlying single party that rules (the true "ruling class").
If I was to smile and I held out my hand
If I opened it now would you not understand?

Eddie Vedder is who he is.
A High School drop out, who happens to be a good musician.
He's no different than any other Athlete/Actor/Musician that uses his celebrity to speak out publicly.

And what's sad it now that PJ are more successful and have separated themselves from that "pack" they have done nothing to retain their image and stand by their values and ethics of who they claimed to be.

its easy to preach politics and pick teams when there is no consequence for your actions.

PJ will continue on their Hypocritical crusade by selling every materialistic item under the sun with their brand on it, all while claiming how much they are like Fugazi

I don't take Ed's politics seriously and with their last few releases (ST/BS) and what i've heard from lightning bolt I'm having a hard time taking his music seriously.
  • Eddies goes political on this tour! The world is on fire and no policies from this admin. has helped our image or liberal ideaology! There are people dying everywhere including in Chicago like no other and if he mentions Trayvon Martin again I will be upset that Eddie will concentrate on small things that are divisive when he has a moment to use the stage to bring us together. You know its very easy to say something uniting or positive! Cmon Eddie use the stage to praise the USA for our resolve, hard work, role in the world! If you like the president so much Eddie, then praise the country for the progress we have made. Dont waste our time by dividing us further. Egypt and the Middle East is on fire and this tour coming up shouldnt be about one person, one thing, or one side! Please Eddie, seek libertarian leanings and meanings, and seek smaller govt. as we all know the big govt. is not the way! Please Eddie I cant believe you of all people would advocate the growth of this govt. The growth of any govt. that takes away freedom from THE PEOPLE. Please Eddie come to the middle and voice for smaller govt. and more freedom!

Please Eddie......we all know when MAN is in control.....corruption is inherently rampant!

Use the platform to help us unite and lead us to the Middle!

Maybe you should travel to a different country to watch them play live. May be a more enjoyable experience for you. You can see that it does not matter who is in power in the states, nobody likes either of em, if you are not from there. :)

Even if he does rant, its a minute or two out of a 2+ hour concert. I think they just want people to think about things.
Its not really a big deal.

Don't you realize what you are doing?
By stating this, you are bringing YOUR Political ideals and rules to the concert. Your rule being, you can only bring political ideals to me... as long as I agree with them.
    Do you even understand politics?

I would never be rude to you, fear and I believe you wouldn't want to be rude to the band so if you think you'll be booing at a show and you're already planning that, you might be happier just skipping any live shows. The band are who they are and it's who they'll continue to be. Let's shut this thread down now; it has enough replies.

    Have a good week, everyone.
