Hey all.... I'm sort of plugging my husband's newest album. If you are jazz fan, he is known to be one of the last of the people on the planet who plays like Art Tatum, Dave McKenna, and his mentor Oscar Peterson. Mike Jones is a solo pianist who currently opens for a fairly well known show in Las Vegas,, but when not doing that he tours the country, and right now his new label is setting him up on a record release party with Jeff Hamilton (monster drummer in jazz, and probably one of the most studied cats for his style of brushes.) Anyway, Mike's new album is called Plays Well With Others, to be released September 17th. The bassist is another monster who is what.. I think 22? Just a phenom. :corn:

If you're into photography, or the Simpsons, you may get a kick out of the cover. It was drawn by one of our dear friends, David Silverman- who directed many Simpsons episodes, the movie, and is also know for, really, playing electric Fire Tuba. (They've done gigs, it's a massive hoot.) Silverman based the album cover on a Diane Albus photo of a boy in Central Park who is kinda standing around with a hand grenade... (remember the shirt PJ had about crayons and guns.. that kind of feel to it...) I'll post when the concert is happening in Los Angeles, and I think the official release date will be announced as the 17th of September, (you an pre-order at Amazon, I guess.) He's a real musician's musician, and you can catch him under Jonesjazz on youtube. We're pretty connected in Chicago, playing Evanston at the Green Mill every year. LOVE it there... lived there a while in the Navy.. but the rest was great, (go CUBS!) I don't sing on Mike's albums, but I love that he plays on mine when I ask.... so this is one of the best ones he has ever done. (seriously..if I didn't know that guy, I'd put the record up there with Kind of Blue by Miles... it's that good.)

If you're in Vegas ever, let me know and we'll figure out how you can get to see him. Meanwhile he had a free album on his website, jonesjazz.com, (maybe it's off right now.. I should have checked first.. but if you PM I'll send you the mp3s) It was also a live album at the Green Mill done with Kelly Sills on bass and a cat named Erich Monstka on drums who is a MONSTER for reals. This is Mike's first album on Capri records, and already the label is asking for more, so we feel good it's a nice fit for him. In between the time you're waiting for your concerts and Lightenin' Bolt to come out, I hope you get a chance to hear it.

that is all from gimpyland tonight... thanks for listening.... if you like jazz, please post away- I sing jazz vox, when I'm not doing fugazi or L7 kind of stuff. :)
When I hear music, I fear no danger. I am invulnerable. I see no foe. I am related to the earliest times, and to the latest.
