Question, I planned on parking at the LaSalle park and ride lot and taking the Metro Rail to First Niagara Center. Is that a good idea, or is there a better way to get to and from the show? Thanks.

Not to be a weenis but I wouldn't do that. It's not the safest area to leave a vehicle or to head back to late at night. This is coming from someone who has lived near that area before and who is typically not one to worry about such things and just have faith in mankind instead. That said, you're better off coming up with another plan. Maybe parking somewhere in the Elmwood Village or in the theatre district, as both of those areas are safer and offer much more to do. May I ask where you're coming from? And why would you rather park further out from the arena? Just curious....

I've parked at the University Station several times. I did it so I didn't have to deal with the traffic jam in the parking lot at the show.

This isn't a bad idea either, though I can't remember what time the Metro stops running at. Basically, though, the University is at one end and the arena is at the opposite end so it drops you off right there.
