Here's a great little slide show depicting people all across America speaking out against dirty tar sands and championing the need to reduce fossil fuel consumption and our carbon output. The movement grows!

“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”
Variously credited to Mark Twain or Edward Abbey.

The Conservative Canadian government (motherfucking assholes) are on a HUGE campaign to try and get Canadians to support the Alberta tar sands. Incredibly produced TV ads are on constantly during prime time, specifically geared towards the specific regions where they're aired all across the country. There are also magazine and newspaper ads, billboards, the works. It's quite the propaganda campaign. They know that the majority of people in Canada aren't very concerned at best, and have recently realized that their options actually DO matter. They tried to force the Northern pipeline through, and the massive opposition to it finally won - the Northern pipeline is a no go, much to Harper's chagrin. So now they are going all Hitler on the matter and trying to brainwash everyone with polished TV ads that go on about how the tar sands are good for every single person in the country. I even recently received a paid Angus Reid survey asking me about how I feel about the ads so that the government can get a reading on how people are reacting to their propaganda. Meanwhile, the same government is busy boldly muzzling environmental scientists all across the country so that they can't tell us what the real environment impacts are.
