The three-day sale of 22,000 LPs begins today, Thursday, August 8, at the Donald and Mary Oenslager Gallery on the first floor of the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts (40 Lincoln Center Plaza at 66th St; 212-870-1630, nypl.org; Thu 8 noon–7:45pm; Fri 9, Sat 10 noon–5:45pm), with every item available for a mere buck (cash only, credit-card minimum $100)—although the library's relying on collectors' goodwill to pay more for items they recognize as rare and valuable (as in, "sell them on eBay with a huge markup" valuable). Proceeds from the sale will go back into R&H's coffers to fund more acquisitions and expand the storage facilities. A similar sale in 1984 raised $14,750, according to a blog post by one of the archive's curators, Jonathan Hiam.
