Oh shit... please, man... please.

According to the festival’s Facebook page, an L.A. Rising Festival is being planned for August 2014. This would insinuate that Rage Against the Machine plan to get together for at least one performance for the date, since it is in fact their festival.

Maybe they should release a new album. 1999 was a long time ago.

I have been patient since I saw them reunite 6 years ago!

  • Nice catch! I'll feign enthusiasm for your concert experience!

A new album seems very unlikely. I'm just hopeful to catch them live before they completely drift apart.

The closest I have come to seeing them is a Freedom outro by Muse. They have so many songs that would sound pretty damn good in a concert setting.

  • They really need to sort themselves out and put another album out. Not much point in them reforming otherwise and its not as if Zach hasn't got plenty of material to work with these days ;)

They are fanatic live. Saw them in 99 at Jones Beach, then the day Battle in LA came out at Roseland Ballroom, and then for their reunion in 2007.

Plenty of material... does he still harbour the anger though?

They definitely need to bring a new record out - listening to The Battle Of Los Angeles at the moment, and it hasn't aged one bit. I saw them twice in 2010 and they were as good as ever - one of the best live bands EVER!

If Zach can't be bothered to do anything worthwhile, I'd like to see Morello, Timmy C and Wilk do something together again, a serious waste of talent happening with those guys these last 6 years. I guess it won't be easy finding another Chris Cornell knocking about looking for someone to play with, though... maybe an album with guest singers, like what Grohl did a few years back. Could be seriously great. On the flipside, maybe it's all 4 of them who can't be bothered to do anything worthwhile.

I wonder if part of it is the fact that it has been so long that they're worried new material just won't stack up against the old stuff. I'm surprised they didn't release something during Bush's time in office!

Count me in! Saw them '94, '96 and '08...

Zach sitting home moping is waste of talent!

  • I would love to see RATM again. The first and only time was when they opened for House of Pain (Jump Around!!!) in Detroit eons ago...must have been just after their first album came out. None of us had heard of them, but we were all rocking it out big time and I've been a fan ever since of them and of course Audioslave.

I'd love to see a Rage show. Not sure how good of a chance that will be. If they can come remotely close to the east coast, I'd consider going.

I wonder if the shows will be as intense in the crowd?.. given that all of their fans are 10+ years older and they probably haven't picked up many newbies?

I'm not sure L.A. Rising coming back necessarily means Rage will be playing it or that it will even be at the Coliseum again. Having attended the show in 2011, I can see them scaling back the event a decent amount. It was far from sold out even with Rage playing. It may be another lineup they help curate without necessarily topping the bill.

Tom Morello's working on a new solo album (http://www.fuse.tv/2013/08/tom-morello-solo-album-rock) and has repeatedly shot down the thoughts and questions of a new Rage album. I've even heard him say in interviews that it looks grim for more shows. They're still as intense as ever and the music holds up. I've seen them 7 times and I'd call their show at the Grand Olympic Auditorium in 2000 one of the best shows I've ever seen period. Even a decade later they were still incredibly intense shows and had surprisingly attracted a new generation of fans that never got to see them before they broke up in 2000.

I actually wouldn't mind if they just actively worked on their own projects. The past two years in December (and two separate occasions before), Tom has played Nightwatchman gigs at the Troubadour in West Hollywood and it's always an incredible show. Would love it if it turns into an annual gig. Hoping that Zack eventually puts out a One Day As A Lion album but even that's been a long wait since the EP. I saw one of their first live gigs back in 2010 and then the following year at Coachella and they were great. They definitely played enough material where an album would be possible but with Jon Theodore joining QOTSA, I'm guessing it may never seen the light of day or have to wait until he's done with the ...Like Clockwork tour cycle. Brad Wilk played on their Sound City album and at their live gigs other than that, no clue what he or Tim is up to.

The energy from the stage to the crowd from this band is unreal. Like a bomb going off. With the world being fucked up for the last 13+ years, you'd think they'd have a ton of shit to write about. Hate to say it but I believe it's zachs fault they haven't done shit. Read somewhere that Tom said its not his idea to NOT be together. God damn, the 15 shows I've seen these guys play still shake my bones!

I can say that hands down this is the best band I have ever seen live (shhh don't tell PJ  )

The crowds are always electric...I've never seen anything like it. And the band just brings it every time...you can just feel the passion throughout the whole show. I get chills just thinking about their shows!

  • So...

Just kind of getting used to this new forum (so far... so terrible). Maybe with time and experience the improvements' will become apparent?

On the left was a tab 'my discussions' and I remembered this one. I also wanted to post something and see what the hell happens?

Has anybody heard anything at all about LA Rising '14 and Rage and... ?

I've been waiting for news on Tool (which there has been some) and for these guys.
    "My brain's a good brain!"
  • I have seen RATM twice. I can tell you the crowds are more insane than the large majority of punk, hardcore, and metal shows I've attended over the years. RAGE is really heavy and intense live. If you haven't seen this band live, and have the opportunity to do so... I implore you to do as such. You won't regret spending the money. Hands down, two of the very best concerts I've ever gone to were those RAGE shows.
    2010: Mountain View, CA (10/23)
    2011: East Troy, WI (9/3-9/4)
    2012: Missoula, MT (09/30) - San Francisco, CA (10/03)
    2013: Chicago, Ill (07/19) - Los Angeles (11/23 - 11/24) - Oakland (11/26) - Portland (11/29) - Spokane (11/30) - Seattle (12/06)
  • Trust me... I will travel a great distance to see them. The next chance might be the last chance with these guys.

Expense will not be an issue. I just need the opportunity- somewhere within reason!

The best live band ever, that I've ever seen, is the Clash. RATM is the only band that has come close with the anger, the fire, the intensity, the outrage, and the talent. It would be amazing if they figured out who they are as a band now, today, in 2014, and brought that. It'll be tough - I'm sure they're all different people today (some of them are dads, etc), so they have to give themselves permission to bring their 2014 selves to RATM, and we all need to be prepared for it to be different. But we all still hope it'll rock and rage our eyebrows off our faces, right?! :D And, just for the record, yes PJ are one of my other all time favorite live bands!
