Hotels in NYC for Brooklyn shows - $$$$$$$$

Has anyone else noticed that hotels in New York for the weekend of October 18/19 are about 3-4 times their normal room rate? Finding a single room for under $300 is a challenge! What's the deal?

They still have rooms available? I just checked and nothing...
I got great little places steps away from the venues in Brooklyn and Philly.

This
It'll be high price, as it's the start of the run-up to Christmas and people will be heading to NYC to start shopping. Plus it's NYC.
If you don't mind shared rooms/bathrooms, here are some hotels not too far from that area:
Hotel 31
Hotel 17
Gershwin Hotel (have both shared and private)
Ace Hotel (have both shared and private)
And this sounds a bit dodgy but Bowery White House
Haven't looked at rates so I have no idea what it's looking like for that weekend. I expect a standard room (not sharing anything) at a halfway decent hotel in Manhattan to be upwards of $250/night before tax.
Would not recommend Jersey City or anything by the Path. The Path is great to get to Manhattan but then you have to switch to the subway to get to Brooklyn. It runs really frequently during the day but I think it's every half hour after midnight so getting home will be a pain in the you know.

A friend of mine stayed here in 2000 and says for the price it is hard to beat. In Manhattan, not Brooklyn. Personally, if you're coming to these shows stay in Manhattan and not Brooklyn. Bars close at 4am, plenty of time to leave the show, get back to Manhattan and have a great night out.
Yeah I'm gonna stay in Manhattan, my friend who I'm going to the shows with lives in Manhattan (in a 200 square foot studio, so no room for me).
Just for the record those are normal NYC hotel rates every weekend.

G train will take you directly to Brooklyn, Q train too, but runs through Manhattan. You can also access the 7 train that takes you to Grand Central, and then change to 4 or 5 train.
It's definitely not Manhattan, but it's also not 300 dollars!!
See you at the Barclays!!
This guy is correct. 4th quarter of the year is the most expensive for hotels in NY, too. The bright side is, the hotel prices are the only thing that make rent look reasonable by comparison
