Obviously we need to change AMT to IHC (I hate cops).

Did you here the one about the cop and a rabbit who walk into a bar?

This was the DNR not local cops. The DNR was escorted by County Sheriffs because the owner of this facility has a history of being uncooperative with any officials. I shouldn't even call it a facility. They are animal hoarders that were able to receive tax-exempt status through the St. Francis Society. The animals live in HORRIBLE conditions! They are constantly under surveillance for abuse, neglect and hoarding conditions.

There are laws about having wild animals such as deer because of the high incidence of CWD in Northern Illinois and Southern WI. This fawn should have not been brought to a facility across state lines! And unfortunately, the only way to test for CWD is post-mortem.

Officials had also asked for voluntary cooperation with the warrant from the owner and staff, the owner and staff refused to cooperate.

Such horrible conditions that they kill the deer to rescue it. Please, if my yard ever looks a bit unkept dont send the police to rescue me.

Unkept is not the same as hoarding to the point of abuse and neglect. If they loved the deer so much, why didn't they seek a proper shelter for two weeks? Why did they accept the deer in their shelter, breaking federal laws? Why did they refuse to cooperate with the DNR when initially contacted with the warrant?

County officials (of all levels) and the public have numerous run-ins with these people.

You're right, this deer should have been spared and the owners of the facility cuffed and thrown in jail for their mistreatment of animals!!! But there would be an uproar about that too.

It's not about an inability to "handle it," its about an inability to have a constructive discussion about it. Of course excessive force is an issue and one that should be dealt with, but by simply posting link after link from sources of varying credibility ( you've even posted editorials as sources), it becomes a fair assumption that you're not really interested in tackling the problem, but instead just bitching about it.

We've got enough arm chair activists in the world.

It's not that we can't handle it, it just gets old. It's like your gravity's failing and negativity don't pull any of us though.

We all have our passions. Some rail against cops, some promote environmentalism, some just like tequila. I'm super interested in environment and climate change (and love a good margarita) but if I posted about environment every week people would tune me out (I know, I've done that in the past- now I try to spread it out more).

    Just a thought, unsung.

"And that’s not the only thing the DNR agents took. They also discovered a Canadian goose – lounging by the shelter’s pond."

    Copied from the comments:
"I wonder if they mean a canada goose, or did the goose actually show the officers his passport?"

"They probably knew he was Canadian because of how polite he was."

Very sad story, but I got a laugh out of those comments

Deer don't generally abandon their young. The wildlife center that I am familiar with stresses that fawns found hunkered down in the weeds are NOT abandoned. Their mother is foraging for food and is aware of where she left the fawn. So, leave the fawn alone. Mom will show up after the humans leave. Somebody picking up the fawn was the first mistake.

If this was an above-board wildlife rescue operation, they would have known that they CAN NOT keep native wildlife without the proper license. This also applies to the Canada goose. It is federal law that governs the possession of native birds.

DNR in Wisconsin are nuts. When my mom was ten (back in the 50's), her friend gave her an orphaned deer because the DNR found out about it. Then the DNR found out she had it and came to her house but she wouldn't answer the door. She called her dad and when the DNR went on lunch break (they actually did a stake out), he came and picked up the baby deer and took it to another friend.

The DNR got a tip on the new location a few weeks later and the baby deer was executed.

Maybe the DNR should start taking over the war on drugs instead of baby deer.
