Cat with nine lives owes one to Vancouver Police

VANCOUVER – If this cat has nine lives, then it owes one of them to Vancouver Police.

Const. Jana McGuinness said officer rescued “Herman” the cat after a frantic dash when beat officers were told a man was strangling a cat.

Officers in fact caught the 63-year-old man beating a black garbage bag against a wall. Herman was inside.

“A 63-year old Vancouver man is now facing a charge of cruelty to animals after allegedly strangling and beating Herman,” said McGuiness, VPD’s spokeswoman.

“Around 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 18th, officers from VPD Beat Enforcement Team 4 caught up with the man near Carrall and Hastings, after witnesses said a man was strangling a cat nearby,” she said.

“The officers intervened as the man beat a black plastic bag containing Herman, against the wall of a building,” McGuiness said.

“Fortunately, the officers were able to rescue Herman in time and he was taken to the SPCA for treatment of unspecified injuries. He is expected to recover,” she added.

Harold Aubrey Borgal was arrested and charged with cruelty to animals and one count of breach of an undertaking. He is appearing in court Monday afternoon.

Police confirmed Borgal was the owner of the cat.

Jesus...what possesses a person to do something like that?

I bet it'll take awhile for Herman to get over this. Poor sweetie.

Here's to him having a loving home soon.
