I hate the fact that this shit doesn't even surprise or stun me anymore..
None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe that they are free.

Saw this video broken down on Reddit. The woman is not LAPD, but some sort of private security. Obviously way overreaching her authority and pretty loony, though.

Ok, the dude starts the video saying after something inaudible, "I don't know but watch this"

Not saying the cop was right in language or how she was throwing authority around, but fuck, why must people PROVOKE this behavior ?

It wasn't until she stated he was free to go that he said am I being detained or am I free to go?

Seems set up from the start to me.

  • I agree that she acted poorly.

We don't know for sure if there might have been a reason for pulling the car over (she said something about a rental vehicle and there may have been a string of burglaries with a rental vehicle used).

But where is the respect these days? I remember growing up, if one was dealing with the police, people said, "Yes, sir." Now they sneer at them, film them, and laugh at them- citing their rights to do so.

Parents of young children: tell your kids to go into law enforcement for a really rewarding career. $40,000 a year with society distrusting you, laughing at you and waiting for you to do something wrong as they film you (like shoot a dog that's attacking you or pull a suspicious vehicle over for quick questioning) so they can splash your face on the net and be the subject of forums.

You wonder why we have questionable police? We treat the profession like shit and the people who probably should go into law enforcement avoid it like the plague. Negative recruitment. What's the upside?

They film us but we can't film them? I love that they are finally being held accountable.

Actually she said he was free to go and then she asked where they were headed, that's when he asked if he was being detained or if he was free to go. Police don't have the right to question your travel plans.

I hope people that who constantly complain about cops on band message boards are also actually doing something about these problems. It'd be pretty sad if people were only interested in posting YouTube links to support their cause. And no, "raising awareness" isn't a valid excuse for a lack of actual action.

It's sad how easy the Internet can make experts and activists out of people who never lift a finger toward solving the problems they complain about...

    Van...

There has been no response to this post of yours and none to mine either. I just wanted you to know that what you have written has been read and it has been acknowledged from my corner of the world.

I'm assuming others are having too much trouble responding and that is why your post was the last post.

Tough being the thread killer, eh?

Aside from that... if there ever is a River's Edge Music Festival again... we're having a drink together. If we've already had 12 drinks prior to this drink... we can have a chest butt!

I am always respectful too, but never stopped most cops from being dicks right back.

Makes their egos go even higher.....

the very few times I've been stopped I've treated them as I treated my parents.....with respect. cops can smell an attitude a mile away and react in kind.

You seem to be assuming that someone's motivation for sharing a video correlates with personal experiences. The "raising awareness" aspect isn't necessarily on a broad level, but often about bringing attention to a specific incident in the hopes that disciplinary action be taken if appropriate. While I've never found myself in a situation where I felt someone was conducting themselves outside the bounds of their authority, I can understand why someone who has would want to bring attention to it.

I'm not sure if you're referring to the OP, but I didn't take vant's post to be about anyone in particular.
