Aerosmith, granted they've had their ups and downs and ins and outs.


I think they're verging on classic rock. I think it has as much to do with their sound as it does their longevity. They've always been a classic rock band and I've been hearing Alive and Evenflow on classic rock stations since I started listing to PJ in around 2000.

I don't take it to mean that they're done making albums either. The Who, Stones, Fogerty, Plant, Aerosmith and countless other artists have continued making albums long after their prime and nobody has ever argued if they're classic rock or not.

I do agree a bit with the poster above that said, I'm paraphrasing "we'll know in October". I think they're past their prime as a studio act, but maybe they've managed to flame the embers a bit. If it's another effort like Backspacer, it could go a long way toward cementing their status as a heritage act.

I think right now they are covering both bases. They are old enough to be classic but still make music. Definitely wouldn't consider them alternative anymore. Alternative nowadays seems like bands seeing how badly recorded they can make their record to be hip. All sounds like recorded in a trash can in Brooklyn, or recorded in a truck stop bathroom in Texas.
