Karen Elson gets restraining order against Jack White

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The estranged wife of rocker Jack White has filed a restraining order against him after she said in their divorce filings he was threatening her and she fears for her safety and her children's.

British model and singer Karen Elson married White in 2005 in Nashville and they have two children. They separated in 2011 and Elson filed for divorce last year.

Elson filed for a temporary restraining order July 17. It was approved by a judge pending a court hearing on Aug. 29. The order was first reported by the Nashville City Paper.

Elson said in the filing that White has a violent temper, sends her emails laced with profanity and calls her derogatory names.

A publicist for White said there was no comment.

It's a bit surprising, given the original positive publicity around the time of their split. Didn't they throw a festive divorce party together at the Third Man performance space? Strange that it would devolve to this point.

(Then again, I've never gone through a divorce. May not be so strange to those that have dealt with it.)

that's kind of the reason I posted. they make a big deal out of divorcing amicably, then it turns into that? crazy.

It looks like Jack White's broken finger has healed at least well enough to throw punches at other garage rockers.

The White Stripes frontman was involved in a brawl with Von Bondies singer/guitarist Jason Stollsteimer Saturday night in Detroit's Magic Stick club, according to police reports.

Stollsteimer, who suffered a bloody nose and bruising to his right eye, was treated at Detroit Receiving Hospital and released. White sustained cuts to his left hand.

The Von Bondies singer told police that White had tried to speak with him in the club, which was hosting a record release party for alt-country rockers Blanche, and that when he refused, the Stripes frontman angrily threw him to the ground and punched him seven times in his right eye.

A press statement from the Von Bondies' management claims "Stollsteimer was violently attacked by Jack White of the White Stripes without warning or provocation." It continues: "White approached Stollsteimer during the concert, physically forcing him against the speakers, and began shouting. Stollsteimer attempted to turn his head [to] face White but refused to engage in conversation. Visibly angered by Stollsteimer's unwillingness to argue or fight, White spat into Stollsteimer's face and punched him in the head and face repeatedly. White then forced Stollsteimer to the ground and continued his attack until White was restrained by several crowd members."

The Von Bondies singer filed a complaint against White, who may be hit with misdemeanor assault charges. White later filed his own complaint, insisting he fought back in self-defense after Stollsteimer threw him to the floor and began choking him. White's publicist had no comment.

White played a major role in kick-starting the Von Bondies' career, including them on the Sympathetic Sounds of Detroit album he produced in 2001, inviting them to open for the White Stripes, and producing their 2001 record, Lack of Communication.

Previous reports of a bitter feud between White and Stollsteimer had been denied by the Von Bondies singer.

What I want to know is what is human about threatening one's ex and sending them emails laced with profanity? I'm happily married now (third time's a charm) but been through two divorces. They were painful and there was a lot of hurt but no one felt threatened and no one sent email (or letters in the day) laced with profanity. If this is all true my thought is, grow up, Jack.

White Stripes founder claims Elson has praised his parenting abilities and admitted to being 'completely in love' with him

Jack White has launched a countermotion in court in response to the restraining order taken out by his former wife Karen Elson, as reported last week.

According to the Nashville City Paper, Elson's order read that she has "fears for her and the children's safety" as a result of the singer's alleged harassment via text and emails. The couple have been battling over parenting rights, with Elson claiming that the White Stripes founder is not fit to be a father despite his attempts to help raise the children, and is now barred from having "any contact with wife whatsoever except if it relates to parenting time with the parties' minor children".

However, according to Rolling Stone, the singer has contested this with a motion filed by his lawyer in Davidson County Court in Nashville on 2 August. "The reason for filing this response is that Mr White does not want to be portrayed as something he is not, violent towards his wife and children," it reads. In addition to this, the filing cites a series of emails from his former wife to White in which she praises his parenting abilities. One in particular, dating from 19 May 2013, allegedly reads: "You're an amazing father, I'm so glad we had these kids together."

Despite previously co-parenting their children amicably, it appears that the current rift partly stems from a European trip that Elson took with the children two months ago, during which she kept them overseas for 10 days longer than White had allegedly given written consent for. In response to claims by Elson that she fears the 38-year-old White Stripes founder, the countermotion states that Elson had left their two children in his care the day after signing her restraining order affidavit while she took the 10-day "work/pleasure trip" to New York.

As well as White's attorney Cathy Speers Johnson calling Elson's previous motion for a psychiatric exam "inflammatory … disingenuous, fraudulent and retaliatory and simply designed to malign him in the public record or to gain an upper hand in this litigation," White claims that Elson had last month declared her love for him, telling Dean Fertita, a mutual friend and White's bandmate in the Dead Weather: "I'm completely in love with Jack and I'd move back in tomorrow if he asked me." "This is not the statement of a woman who is concerned about the emotional stability of the father of their children or their safety when they are with him," White's motion states.

Elson's order also reports that White wanted Elson to contact their children's private school to remove their kids from a class in which another entertainer's child was present, who he said had "ripped off" his music. This weekend US gossip website TMZ claimed to have obtained the emails containing these qualms from White, one of which allegedly finds White concerned about their two children, seven-year-old Scarlett and six-year-old Henry, being enrolled into the same school as five-year-old Sadie, who is the daughter of Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys.

"My concern with Auerbach is because I don't want the kids involved in any of that crap … That's a possible 12 fucking years I'm going to have to be sitting in kids' chairs next to that asshole with other people trying to lump us in together. He gets yet another free rein to follow me around and copy me and push himself into my world," the email allegedly sent by White on 16 July reads.



I've always take to the notion that Jack White is a schmuck, on a personal level, but this sounds like a typical messy divorce stuff if you ask me.
