I can't believe this has been going on for three years and no one noticed.......

Mr. Workman said the textbook, which has been on the Brevard County schools’ approved course list for three years, also rewrites the history of Islam. He looked through it and found the authors “make a very obvious attempt not to insult Islam by reshaping history,” Townhall reported.

Seriously? I haven't used this particular Prentice Hall textbook but I have used others and this characterization is off base. This guy claims they teach about the 5 pillars of Islam but not the 10 commandments? Where is his proof? I have used numerous textbooks to teach about the HISTORY of religion and both of those are mentioned as the basic tenets of each respective religion. It it not the job of the textbook nor of the teacher to teach religious ideology but to teach the history of people and places and how they shaped the cultural landscape through religion. And as far as the difference between 'takeovers' and 'massacres' I very much doubt they used one exclusively in regards to one religion. In point of fact, there are numerous events within world history that could be classified as either, usually dependent upon whose point of view is under discussion. Did he actually READ the textbook or did an aide pick out some parts that could be construed as damning? Because World History textbooks in high school advanced placement history classes tend to be about 700-1000 pages long. The likelihood of him actually reading the entire textbook, which is far more conducive to detecting bias (and yes, humans write these books, bias is going to occur), is somewhat unlikely.
Are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?

Seems my preconceptions are what should have been burned...

Aerial, why do you hate Muslims so much? Is it because the t.v, or those wacky racist websites you frequent, told you to? Or did you learn to hate Muslims before bookmarking all those websites and blogs created by racist bigots, far-right Neo-Nazi groups, and holocaust deniers?

I can't see any reason not to accept this exhaustively researched article from a right wing mouthpiece at face value.

I mean, at LEAST one other member of the school board is concerned, what more evidence do you need?

What I wonder is why they are teaching anything about religion when there have been so many lawsuits? I wonder why people use race when they simply do not agree. I do not bookmark any sites and hate no one.
