People are working hard to be able to afford the things they like, be it cars, designer dresses, pets, tattoos, a big-ass tv, a week in Jamaica, a couple of shows or whatever floats their boat. What is so wrong about that? It's their money, and it's their life.

You are entitled to your opinion, but I think you are just enjoying to stir people up. You are not better or worse than everybody else because you decide to spend your money on what you spend your money on, or not.

I not only expected, but am loving the insults.

Oh, and to that poster saying that it would be 5 shows? 1. wishing for a 10c NYC show is exactly that: wishful thinking, much like all of yous expecting the rail for all the shows you're going to, 2. wishing for Albany obviously isn't happening, and 3. I'm not entering for a 2nd Worcester show, because I have better things to save my money for.

You people LIVE for a BAND. I was not a dead head, I enjoy all kinds of music and see all kinds of live music. What a waste to devote your lives to one band. Good luck with your gluttony. And I CAN generalize a whole group - after all, it's all of you spend loads of money on merch, tickets and travel... for one band.
You come off like an incredibly judgy person. How do you figure that people are devoting their lives to a band just because they enjoy going to concerts and traveling and meeting up with friends who have the same taste in music are devoting their LIVES to a band. It's just how some of them like to spend some of their free time, and they are passionate about music. Everyone I've met who are big PJ fans are very productive members of society who have jobs and friends and family ... and enjoy the fuck out of Pearl Jam's music and have a blast getting together with other fans, or chatting with them online, etc.

You sound like kind of an angry or really snotty person or something to find fault in that (I'm not saying your necessarily ARE angry or snotty... But that's how you're coming of here because of what you're saying, IMO). Also, it's so none of your business how people spend their money or spend their time - who are you to judge? People should just do what makes them happy. They are not hurting anyone (in many cases they are helping others!), so I don't understand what you see wrong with it. Same goes for anything anyone does. Do you have any idea how many people are super into something? A lot of people! I personally think healthy obsessions are great. I personally have a total music obsession (not just PJ), and it is super fulfilling! I'm a music fiend, and I love it!!! I wouldn't want to live my life any other way. Music, and all that comes with it, makes me feel good. I don't know why everyone isn't as obsessed with music as I am. What's up with that? :P

I've been a fan for a long time, forgot to renew a couple times. But as I've been reading not only these boards, but the PJ Sharing/Swap/Request group on FB, there's one thing that would describe typical fans. GLUTTONOUS. The number of requests alone on the FB group is laughable. Where do all these people think that they're going to get 10c tix for multiple shows? And not only that, but GA, and not only THAT, but they are dead set for getting the rail. (I'm guessing that a lot of people dream...)

    Gluttonous
    glut·ton·ous (gltn-s)
    adj.
    1. Given to or marked by gluttony.
    2. Indulging in something, such as an activity, to excess; voracious.

Gluttony, derived from the Latin gluttire meaning to gulp down or swallow, means over-indulgence and over-consumption of food, drink, or wealth items to the point of extravagance...is also one of the Seven Deadly Sins.

Now, I've been going to shows for over 20 years now, and experience is everything. Traveling with the Dead was cool for some, but I was lucky to get to a few shows; after all, I was a kid and had no money and didn't want to live the dirty life. But PJ fans? They're similar except for one thing - they have bottomless wallets. ONE show? Ha, I haven't come across one person who is fine going to one show, it has to be 6, 7, 8 of them. And one show per city isn't enough, they have to have more, more, MORE! Not one show in Seattle, but dammit, TWO. Worcester got two, so let's bitch til we get more. Not qualified to enter the 2nd lottery for Worcester? Let's bitch about that. Gluttony, gluttony, GLUTTONY.

I know that I am lucky enough to see two shows this tour, didn't win anything in the lottery, yet I'm grateful for public sale and spouse who happened to win the lottery. "Wow, two shows this tour, Honey? We're styling!" Yet, I hear nothing but spoiled brats cry and moan that 5 shows aren't enough, as well as only one show in their town.

No wonder this place gets bad wraps. It's pathetic.

Speaking of Gluttony......how about a barbecue before the shows??????

Why is traveling to see a band just about seeing the band?

I went to the Wrigley show because I always wanted to go to Wrigley and Chicago. I'm not much of a baseball fan so I couldn't pass up an opportunity to see PJ there.

Going to Brooklyn because I've heard great things about that arena and I'm staying near ground zero, etc...

Going to Hartford because...ok that one I'm just going to see PJ.

It is possible to save your money AND to travel. Memories will last forever. So will some STD's so wear a raincoat.

True. If it was JUST the show on the other side of the continent, I wouldn't do it. I went to Wrigley because of the show, and because I wanted to visit Chicago, and see friends, and meet friends, and have a little adventure..... That said, I also see nothing wrong with just going for a PJ show, if that is what a person enjoys. They're fucking awesome shows after all, and it's better than sitting around doing the same old same old!

  • Making generalizations is never a good thing. I'm going to 5(maybe 6) shows, but haven't been to very many in the past despite being a fan from the beginning. Moving, kids, coaching, stuff pit concerts (or at least more than 1 or 2 a year for all bands) on the back burner for a while. Now they're grown a bit, and I'm fortunate enough to be able to "follow" the band a bit this tour. ( and 1 show I'm taking my 3 oldest, 2 others I'm taking a nephew and a bro in law, all 5 to their first pj show).

All that aside, pj makes it more affordable to do this. What are the shows? $90 each? So 5 shows, $600 (including my kids' tix), 1 hotel night that I'm splitting, so $75 lodging (I will be home for 2, staying at a friend's place for 2 and either staying at another friends or doing a 1 day road trip for the maybe show). So, gas and train tix are another say $200. Forget food because I think I have to eat if I'm home instead. I will drink more, so add another $200. 5 or 6 shows done with $1,100. What's bad about that?

Not laying that all out to tell you my life story, but give an example that the layout to follow them on half a leg isn't as much as you're making it sound. Yes, I'm sure there are folks going beyond their means. But not any more than go beyond their means smoking cigarettes, playing the lotto, buying beanie babies, so on and so forth. Obviously shouldn't be doing that, but how do i know those folks are doing that? If they are, shame on them. But it's wrong to lump everyone together.

As for folks asking for tix to more shows - why would you care? How does that effect you?
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.

to the extent that money allows me to, I grant myself thr things that make me happy. doing what you love is what life is about. if that makes me greedy, so be it.

I am not rich by any means, but I save all my money for these trips. I am now in a position where my schedule is flexible, and I have no family to take care of, so I will travel and see as many different places and shows as I can.

as far as topic, I have always been content with one show maybe two per tour...this year though, I said F-it and going to as many as I can

And I CAN generalize a whole group - after all, it's all of you spend loads of money on merch, tickets and travel... for one band.
    ...
Why do you even care about what other people do?
How does what other people do affect your life?

Spending loads of money on merch, tickets, and travel on one band isn't nearly as pathetic as trolling people on a message board.

BTW, have you checked out the "Other Music" board lately? Pretty busy board. It's obvious that most people around here do not just love Pearl Jam.
