Well they have done the deal with the devil and for some unholy reason are doing the big day out. They won't be able to pull out of the tour but they can do side shows. Only way that will happen is if we get onto them and let them know how pisxed off with this decission. So this is the start. If you are an australian pj fan post below to show your displeasure with the bdo tour and hope they do side shows

To all the fans in the states you don't know how fortunate you are to be able to see the band at a heap of venues

BDO. Boooooo. I can justify forking out for the ticket, trip to Perth, day off work unpaid (if I'm lucky to get it off) and hotel room if I am going to see them headline their own show. But I don't think it is justifiable when I also have to sit in 40 degree heat all day to get a good vantage point all the while contesting with thousands who are there for the 'atmosphere' and so they can say they went rather than be in it for the music. I am torn.

Totally agree. Been waiting 22 years to see PJ live. Finally now I have nothing stopping me from going (Finances, travel, childbirth, etc) and I have to suffer thru the BDO to see my fave band of all time while being smothered by a bunch of drunken teenagers who've probably never heard a PJ song from start to finish. Please do some side shows PJ & if you do, don't forget your loyal fans in Western Autralia too.

  • people in other parts of the world have only been lucky enough to listen to them through boots but you guys complaining that they are part of a festival. come on guys, it's still the greatest band in the world playing in your country...

I love the BDO! It's always a great day of seeing cool things, seeing cool bands (like seeing side-stage afternoon sets by White Stripes or Kings Of Leon back in the day).

I am happy there are old grumps annoyed, because nothing would be worse than standing next to some whinging dweeb at a gig. I'd rather stand next to some sweaty bogan singing Alive at the top of their lungs any day!

To this whinging about the BDO... your younger self would be ashamed of what you have turned into! You are ignorant of other good music! And we don't want you there anyways! Plus... PEARL JAM are playing in Australia THIS SUMMER!!!

Those complaining about playing BDO, this may open the doors for more Pearl Jam fans and so the next time they come they may have to play more shows. Sides, it's their band, they can do whatever they want to even if it means not playing Australia at all. Hope there's a Europe tour this next summer!

Fair call, I prob shouldn't whinge about the fact PJ are playing at the BDO. At least I finally get to see PJ live - and I've always said I'd put up with almost anything to get to go to a show. Its true, Im not a fan of what the BDO festival has become in recent years. There has been much more violence in the crowds which is what puts a lot of people off. With everything said, Im still going, Im looking forward to it & I plan on having a FUCKING AWESOME TIME!!! Plus getting Mudhoney in the same show is a big bonus. :D

you get a tour, although a festival one, and what you think of is a "call to arms"? :nono:

Fact is, the ones that go to music festivals want to see a mixture of music & all that goes with it. The "call to arms" is for the ones that want to see a "PJ festival". And fair enough, because anyone that has had the pleasure to see a dedicated PJ gig, this is what they want to see again. Purely for the fact it was the best show ever seen, Period!
Bring on the side shows!! PLEASE!!!

Okay, now you have my sympathy... Mudhoney is absolutely horrible! (IMO)
I'd rather take a beat down from those sweaty 'grogans' ( I like that word, don't see it much in the US) than have to torture my ears and already compromised hearing before enjoying the sweet sound of PJ later.

  • Fair enough, I know some country's rarely get to see Pj live. That sucks and they would say be gratefull and rightly so. But, really you don't understand the BDO is a shit fight and is full of wankers who aren't there to sample a wide variety of music but to piss up and run amok. Not all but the greater majority.

I can't see why they can't do a side show. If your gonna come all the way down here why not. Maybe I'm being selfish, probably. But stuff the BDO, wait all day to see the greatest from 40mtrs away surrounded by gronks

BDO has the rights, they would not let them anyway have a show in a distance area like 200- 300 miles for the venue the festival is..

  • The thing is, I have been to music festivals all through Europe (Glastonbury / Sonisphere / Werchter / Rock am Ring) and they all have their version of the Aussie Bogan - i haven't been to any in North America but I am positive there are the types of people described here (ppl who go just to get drunk / drugs etc)

People just need to relax and if you are going for the bands, concentrate on the bands and enjoy the show. Don't let other tools ruin it for you.

I saw some massive knobs at werchter and sonisphere when I went and I didn't let it affect my overall enjoyment.

    Just chillax people!!

Where would you get 45 minutes from?

I don't care about price. I'm paying to watch Pearl Jam for 2 hours a night so I'm happy !

    good point..
my favo girl left early from eddie solo show at Memphis cos of a drunk lady attack her and her daughter..
bad and good things can happen everwhere..if you think all the time something bad will happen,in the end you will get it.
so its actually how you see life..so as you said, relax and enjoy the shows..dont have to ruin your next 5 months just think a drunk teenager will ruin your concert.
in the end, will be a huge area the venue,..if a drunk is next to you, move to another spot..

I ended up making a last minute decision and got tickets, 2 of them in fact and god knows why because I have no idea who would come with me! That's been my secret issue from the start. A deep seeded insecurity about going to a festival by myself! Concerts aren't so bad, you go, you watch, you leave. Festivals on the other hand . . . There is a lot of sitting around and waiting. Need some PJ buddies for Perth!
Either way I am glad I got them and can't wait to see the boys do what they do best!

  • To all the international fans the bdo was once good. My fear is that there will be injuries of the bad kind. The dimwits that go nuts at the bdo are so out of it that anything can happen. As for the other good bands, well there aren't any yet. Mudhoney seen them and they were ordinary. Archade fire meh. At the moment I won't be going.

dear friend, dont loose the chance..dont put alot of thought in this..alot of festivals-shows-whatever happens at all the planet everyday..
the boys are 50 years old..when they go on stage you will forget all those thoughts..
    really,if u can afford it,and u are healthy,and no need to work,or have family things to do,go..
you never know if and when will be the next time..
    thats my opinion..

  • Bdo finishes 2nd feb in Perth. Sideshows after are a possibility. The bdo isn't a festival anymore it's just a moneymaking tool for the promoter. Last bdo I went to foo fighters headlined with janes addiction, queens of the stoneage, millencolin and a heap of Aussie bands (the good ones not the crap on this bill). The sydney gig I went to on the last tour was awesome. If this is the bands last tour of oz then I don't want a shit bdo crowd to ruin what would otherwise be a top set. Rather save my pennies and see them in America.
