That line doesn't have anything to do with the *price* of gasoline. Some of you are reading it much too literally.
"Gone" is a "getting the fuck out of a bad situation" song, right? What he's saying there is that the gas in his tank -- ie, the literal MEANS for getting the fuck out of the bad situation -- is like currency to him. It means more to him than money or material possessions or anything else he's leaving behind.
He's saying, "You can take every cent I have, everything I own. All I need is this tank of gas and I can start anew."
The line that comes directly after "money in the bank" is important, too. "Gonna blow it all this time." -- basically he's going to take that tank of gas and spend it like money to the last drop. He's going to drive that vehicle as far as that last tank will take him.
And that's how he'll find his freedom.
Good idea. Good line.
everybody wants the most they can possibly get
for the least they could possibly do
Not a rhyme but... "Now Johnny he be having lots of women."
That line makes me cringe EVERYTIME.
Not a fan of Johnny Guitar the song, but it's *supposed* to be written with a kind of a "Blaxploitation" type of dialogue. Look at the guy on the cover of Johnny Guitar Watson album, for crying out loud. He's basically Shaft on a tricycle.

"I never knew soap made you taller." - Ghost
Yeah. This one is really bad in an otherwise great song. When I was younger I even had my own line I replaced it with when I sang along... can't remember it now though.
Not a rhyme but a terrible line (hehe)

I like that one, too. I think this maybe isn't the thread for me.
In your opinion of course...
Agree with you on "Gone" (even though it is not my favourite song). But I was wondering what your analysis is on this line. I could never figure out if the line (of Ghost) was related to a commercial or something. Since you gave a good explanation about Gone I am curious about your analysis here.

I like this line, as he's talking about the TV selling him what he doesn't need. I always envisioned some cheesy late night infomercial, "and this faaaaabulous soap cuts down on grime and makes you taller!"

So it is not reffering to a specific commercial? I always felt there was a direct reference there, but since I didn't live in the States during that time, I just didn't know.

But yeah, def. an infomercial or something...
Simply improving the quality of water and using soap could make children grow taller, according to the first study of its kind.
Researchers found that basic methods to maintain good hygiene could add half a centimetre to a five-year-old as poor personal care can increase the risk of infection in the gut, thereby reducing the amount of nutrients absorbed.

"No matter how cold the winter, there's a springtime ahead"
How cliche? C'mon Ed... I could have come up with that, and I don't have a single poetic bone in my body.
Flame away... I know people love that song, but I can't stand it.

This is an excellent line! Especially the way the meaning is reversed when he sings it the second time...
Do not like "This is how I feel." But I do love Thumbing My Way. Got me through a couple of tough times. I do agree it's cliche but it's exactly what I needed to hear.

Love the song, don't cringe when I hear this, but I sometimes get the feeling he didn't know what to say next.
Haha, my thought exactly. I love that line "the wisdom that the old can't give away, hey, constant recoil, sometimes life just don't leave you alone". So true. But I feel like Ed didn't know what to say next too.

Doesn't rhyme, but I'm not a fan of "Feel the sky blanket you/With gems and rhinestones"
Not worse than (also not rhyming): "Off the track, in the mud. That's the moss in the aforementioned verse". What the fuck is that, haha.

Never really read up on MFC lyrics, but when I did this line really stood out. Could have been much stronger with another line!
