Atlanta 1994 Best Live Bootleg

edited October 2007 in Given To Fly (live)
Without a doubt in my mind this is Pearl Jam Live at their greatest. You feel the passion, angst and energy. They preview new songs from Vitology. The sound mix is perfect. The drumming is exceptional. Pearl Jam felt like a 'dangerous' band with an incredible amount of intensity. It has my vote for #1 bootleg.
Set List:
Release, Rearviewmirror, Whipping, Even Flow, Dissident, Why Go, Deep, Jeremy, Glorified G/(Another Brick In The Wall), Daughter, Go, Animal, Garden, State Of Love And Trust, Black, Alive/(Not For You), Blood, W.M.A., Better Man, Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town, Rats, Satan's Bed, Once, Sonic Reducer/(Androgynous Mind), Porch, Indifference

I'm still pissed that someone in college stole that from me, and it was over 10 years ago
    Buffalo - 1996; Montreal, Hartford - 1998; San Antonio - 2003; Milwaukee - 2006; Berkeley II - 2008; MSG I - 2008

    MSG I pics: http://s284.photobucket.com/albums/ll22/nimsu8/MSG 1/
  • Yeah I only had the 1 part of the us single for awhile and loved rearviewmirror. A few months back I bought the full 3 cd import on ebay for $40. That and the Nothing As it Seems import so far I bought of PJ on ebay and probably be theonly two things I ever will.
    1998- MSG 1
    2003- MSG 1 & 2
    2006- Irving Plaza, Albany, NJ 1 & 2
    2008- MSG 1 & 2
    2008- EV NYC 2
    2010- Hartford
    2016- MSG 2
  • I agree. The first PJ bootleg I ever owned.

I remember I sat by the radio recording the whole show on a cassette tape and paused it during the commercials. God, that was a long time ago!!
Still have the tapes, but I downloaded it not too long ago and was pleasently surprised to hear a few songs that didnt make it on the radio.

I always loved the dedication to Kurt just before "Go"

i got the record on a two CD set where each CD is one track. its kinda of a bummer, but i have to listen to it all when i do so its not all that bad. definately a great boot, altho i have to say from No Code on may be my favorite stuff this certainly captures the pre 96 stuff excellently
    peace

    I 100% Agree.

During the 'Ben' portion at the end of 'Rats,' Ed slips in "Michael Jackson was innocent," I suppose to to it being around the time he was first accused. Plus, 'Rats' also had a 'Satan's Bed' tag worked in as well ("torture, follows reward, follows torture.."); maybe this was ed hinting to the guys that he wanted them to play 'satan's bed' next, which they did.

Black also had the best 'we belong together' tag ever.

I bought the bootleg from the 1st Night back in 1994...my first PJ bootleg, and still my favorite. It was a double-disk CD and I think I paid $50 at the time for it from some rare import music store. I can't even begin to count the amount of hours I spent through the years listening to this...unfortunately it was stolen from me and I no longer have it. :(

I think Unplugged had the best 'we belong together' tag ever.

    2006: 5/14, 5/27, 5/31, 6/1

    2003: 7/8, 7/9

  • I was at that show, it was great! One of the best shows I have been to.

Me too, except my radio station didn't put in commercials. They did however edit out Ed's curse words in between songs.

This was the date they played betterman for the first time live! This was my first concert ever I sat 8th row and watched eddie swing from the rafters in wings and a bengals helmet. it is the reason I am the PJ fan I am today!!!!!!!!
  • Ahhh, I hate bringing dave a into this but he kicked ass in this show. Ed's voice is more powerfull as well. Just a kick ass show.

Oooooooohhhhhhhhh. Man...some great memories in this thread. I remember taping the thing off the radio and listening to the tape until I bought the bootleg cd on some online site in '97.

Now I know what I'm listening to in the car this weekend....

That's the one I have! The first night, not the second. For a long time, early on in my fandom, I didn't even realize they were 2 different shows.

A close friend ripped a copy of this one for me back in 1998 for my 30th birhday (he borrowed it from a guy who knew a girl, etc.) My first intro to what an awesome live band these guys are/were.

As awesome as this show is, and as good as Dave A. is, the band sounds much better now - tighter, more mature and polished, able to harness that raw energy just enough to be tight, but not so much that it ain't loose, edgy and brimming with madness.
  • so whos gona upload the show for me??? :P

I still have what I taped off the radio. Wasn't able to get to get the whole thing. I remember listening to what was then referred to as "Already in Love" over and over again.

I know Soldier Field is looked upon by almost everyone as the best show of the 95-96 tour era - but you NEED to hear Melbourne II '95. It is on pjlive.com and it's just fucking mindblowing - every member is on top form, vocals are perfect, awesome quality, some amazing improvisation on some songs, it is like every member has a telepathic thing going on with the others. And not just that - if you listen really closely, whenever a member makes a tiny mistake, for example ed finishes a chorus early in Even Flow i think, and Jack just does this amazing fill - if you didn't know better you would think it was intentional. Go listen to this boot. NOW!

bt.etree.org often has it listed for download.

Great night! I remember sitting next to the cassette deck on the stereo and capturing the whole thing on tape. That may be one of the reasons Pearl Jam fans regard this show so highly--many of us were able to experience it in real time.

    Thanks, PJ.

Melbourne 3/17/95 may be my favorite bootleg of a show I didn't go to. Sick SICK show. Best RITFW ever.

  • I too remember staying glued to the radio for the duration of the '94 Atlanta show as I taped it, pausing for commercial breaks. I tried like hell to get tickets to that concert (I live in the Atlanta area) but I remember that I couldn't even get through to Ticketmaster's 800#.

Anyway, I don't believe that I have my cassette copies of this anymore. A couple of years ago, someone sent me the show on CD. I was listening to it this morning and it's still an amazing show. But the sound quality is nowhere near as good as my original 1st generation cassettes were. So my question is - do any of you have a 1st generation copy of it that you can upload? At the very least, I'm hoping that there is a better version in circulation than the one I have. The one I've got isn't terrible, but this is one of my favorite live recordings ever, so it would be great to find the best sounding version possible. Thanks in advance for any help.
  • im with you! this boot kicks so much ass, just something about it. great to listen to. prime pj.

  • I found this link from the archives for these boards. I have a subscription to Rapidshare and not for Megaupload, but I think I'll be able to download this one anyway - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9BZ8PF4A - which was originally posted here - http://forums.pearljam.com/archive/index.php/t-176290.html
Well, I can't download it right now via Megaupload because the Download Limit has been exceeded since I'm on a shared IP address at work. I'll try again when I get home tonight.

In any case, I'd still like to know if there are different versions of the '94 Atlanta boot out there and which one sounds the best. Anyone know?

I found an awesome double CD ( by Kiss The Stone records) back in ´97 when i was travelling around Brazil. It has pretty cool pictures of the band (one has them, walking across a bridge wich is one of my favorite pics of the band) and has a perfect sound quality. It was my first PJ boot and I am still surprised on how good this show was. One of my top 5s by far.

One of the best versions of Porch, Rats, Black, Solat.

Atlanta "The Day Before" is also a good bootleg, not as good as this one, tough.
