LA - where to stay for the car-less?

It's not as bad as people want to make it out to be. In broad daylight you should be absolutely fine. Even at night, as long as you're not provoking anyone and not alone, you'll be fine. For Bruce Springsteen last year, I parked in the neighborhood behind the Coliseum and was fine walking back by myself after the show (Wouldn't necessarily recommend it but I needed to save on parking that night :? )
However, on the flip side of that, I believe my dad has his car broken into at the Coliseum/Sports Arena back in the 80's.0 -

Close to the 101 (10 min to venue), good selection of bars and restaurants nearby, decent price (under $100/night), great reviews, and free parking.

Suziemay wrote:Thank you everyone for the responses. I'm still torn.. I'm mostly going to be in town for the shows so I think the Radisson might work for me assuming that there will be plenty of folks headed that direction after the shows. I would probably move to a different hotel for the day after the show (11/25) before heading to Oakland the following day (11/26).
So even walking in the morning, say 7AM between the Radisson to the arena may not be that safe?
people are making exposition park seem like beruit circa 1987...it's not...i'm not saying it's the safest place to be but if you stay on figueroa you'll be ok0 -
So the bar is getting lower and lower.. I just want to be some place that I won't get mugged or raped or murdered after the show. Really appreciate everyone's insights. Sounds like I need to seriously consider how badly I want/need to be close to the venue and if not, I should really find someplace else to be

I see someone walking to the GA line...
anyone know how much parking at the venue is? or where to park nearby?0 -

Well, I also get the munchies in the morning sometimes  :oops:0 -
Hello, another question. How's the Metro Silver Line bus, specifically 910? It looks like that goes directly from downtown LA to the arena.
Or should I really just abandon all attempts at public transportation?0 -
Suziemay...I'm going to go for the Radisson, like Norm said, there really shouldn't be any issues.
There will be plenty of others staying at that hotel. I don't have GA so I don't need to go early in the AM but we can meet after the show for the walk back to the hotel if you like.
I'm a female and I'll be with my 23yr old son. If we all stick together everything will be ok.
I considered public transportation but I think there will be more hassle than it's worth and I would feel even more unsafe.
I don't think catching a cab after the show will be easy and it sure won't be cheap.0 -
That's not the kind of area where I'd want to be walking late at night. If you do, go with a huge group of people, or have your 9mm ready!!Suziemay wrote:Let's say I'd rather not drive or need to depend on others to drive me. What area should I stay in LA? How's public transportation? I initially booked a room at the Radisson near USC so I could be within stumbling distance of the venue, but doesn't really seem to be much else around. I also get the munchies a lot so I need to be near food

...exactly!!Gludfssr wrote:This is not a great area to walk around during the daytime let alone after dark. I am not saying that something will happen, but for your own piece of mind I would suggest getting a hotel somewhere out of the area. The closest area for decent hotels would be Downtown. For the price the Sheraton Los Angeles Downtown Hotel is a good choice. It's about 3 miles from the arena so you would have to get a cab. Public transportation is horrible and not completely safe, especially if you are by yourself.11/6/95, 11/18/97, 7/13/98, 7/14/98, 10/24/00, 10/25/00, 10/28/00, 6/2/03, 6/3/03, 6/5/03, 7/6/06, 7/7/06, 7/9/06, 7/10/06, 7/13/06, 7/15/06, 7/16/06, 7/18/06, 10/21/06, 4/10/08, 4/13/08, 9/30/09, 10/1/09, 10/6/09, 10/7/09, 10/9/090 -

I've found a cheap hostel in Hollywood and the distance to the venue is about 12 miles.
Who can tell me what it'll cost me to take a taxi from the hotel to the venue?2007: Nijmegen

Based on the help of SENROCK and others, we are thinking about staying in Redondo Beach.
http://www.hotelportofino.com/
This place is $140/night with a marina or ocean view. Seems like there is a lot to do in the area.
It's 19 miles from the venue but I only plan on being at the venue for the show and nothing else.
Anyone else stayed in this area? Doesn't seem as busy as the city and you can still drive to the areas you want.Bham 9/3/98

I think i'm correct in saying that the Expo Park/USC Metro station is only around a half mile walk from the venue. I've used the Metro trains in LA and while it's not the greatest it's by no means the worst i've been on and i've been on many.Manchester 17.8.09, Manchester 21.6.12, Copenhagen 10.7.12, Manchester 28.7.12 (EV), Phoenix 19.11.13, San Diego 21.11.13, LA 23.11.13, LA 24.11.13, Vienna 25.6.14, Leeds 8.7.14, London 6.6.17 (EV), London 18.6.18, Krakow 3.7.18, London 17.7.18, Dublin 3.7.19 (EV)0 -

That place looks great.. did you end up getting a reply on how long it would take to get there? I have heard that it might be a bit hard to get a cab from the venue..1995: Perth

They definitely seemed to have picked not the greatest areas this tour. Hartford is going to look like the gold coast (if you don't wander North, of course).
Aren't they playing Barclays in Brooklyn? That area is fine.everybody wants the most they can possibly get
for the least they could possibly do0 -
It's more than fine, Barclays is a great venue and pretty much every subway line goes there.slightofjeff wrote:EdsonNascimento wrote:Between this place, Brooklyn and Worcester is this tour to be branded "The Dump Tour '13," or, "We Don't give a shit about the area around the arena, we get privately driven in and out anyway Tour '13"
