Well, here we are with a new album cycle!
What started out as a slow year with lots of speculation on the progress of recording, has morphed into what I think is the best time to be a fan. It has been a long time coming! New music is what keeps a band relevant and vital. Plus, a tenth album is certainly a big deal. And a tour to support it will turn this into quite the celebration.
Heck, I'm even excited about their marketing strategy. From the simple 'Rumor Pit' days, they definitely have gotten a lot more savvy. I look forward to what awaits us in the coming months. For now, I will bask in knowing my favorite band continues to exist in the present tense!

Yeah a new album is always a great thing. Even though I don't really like Backspacer. I enjoyed the hell out of the Backspacer era...as I did the Avocado era....and the Riot Act era....and so on. When there's new songs, and shows, and TV appearances and the like, it's always a great time. This will actually be my 11th consecutive year seeing PJ at least once. So even non-album years have the potential for fun.

I just pray for new music to help keep Dennis Rodman out of North Korea. Pearl Jam could do that.
Pick up my debut novel here on amazon: Jonny Bails Floatin (in paperback) (also available on Kindle for $2.99)

I've made it a rule to never listen to their new songs until I have the album in my hands. However, I've discovered a loophole now that I'm seeing them prior to album's release. And I agree. I'm a big fan of the new material. And if it gets supplemented by something more experimental, that'll be perfect!
I'm surprised some interviews haven't popped up by now. There will most likely be a concentrated effort to gather attention via the media soon. They've been more active in that regard for Backspacer and Avocado. Even though all of that stuff is secondary to the actual music, it always great to see them on TV or the cover of a magazine. Not too mention some of the fun activities, like the internet Backspacer scavenger hunt!
