listened to backspacer again last night

to be honest, i skipped just breathe.
i wanna talk about music for a second.
gonna see my friend is a solid rocker, i don't think it is as good as other songs that ed has written in that vein(breakerfall, wws) but i'll take it at a show anytime, it gets me going.
got some is one of the most interesting songs the band has written in a long time, i wish this song was the soul of this record and the record revolved around it, with everything coming from that similar place. incredible song.
the fixer is a cute pop rock song, i dig it. not spectacular but doesn't deserve the shit it gets.
johnny guitar...a lot of you will not agree, but fuck, this is an awesome song. the tempo changes, the music, the start and stops.....again, one of the more interesting tracks in the pj repertoire. great melody too, the bridge is fantastic as well.
just breathe- not gonna touch this one
amongst the waves is a great midtempo pearl jam song. what else can i say, i really love it. i love the dueling mike and stone solo before the last chorus. very proggy. different....that's what i want from pearl jam now....shit i haven't heard them attempt.
i'm not a huge fan of unthought known, its good, it gets people going at the shows, but it doesn't hit me in that special place.
supersonic doesn't suck, but i liked it better when stone sang it in 1996.
not a fan of speed of sound....cheeseball. save it for your solo records, ed. remember when ed wrote midtempo songs like i am mine? more i am mine, less speed of sound please.
force of nature is cool, its a shame we'll probably hear it live twice for the duration of the band's career. that chorus is really uplifting.
the end is another ed solo song. three ed solo songs on the record is unacceptable to me.
there's a difference between a song ed wrote (like unthought known) and an ed solo song (just breathe, the end, speed of sound). so much talent in this band, they shouldn't be staring at their instruments(stone) or fake picking barely audible notes(mike) during songs.
i'll give the record as a whole a 6.5
which is a shame because every other album is an 8 at least. i guess its ahrd to follow up a masterpiece like avocado, which blew its predescessor(which was a great record in its own right) out of the water.
this record has some real bright spots, but as a whole, i expect more out of pearl jam.
i still have hope, even though im not in love with future days.

And if they're a country fan, put on the Willie Nelson version and BOOM!!
I suppose part of the crap that just breathe gets is from the same spot in the setlist night after night after night after night after...you get it.
I do think it'll be replaced by another song and maybe we'll love it after it goes into the "once in a rare while" category.
We'll see.
i'm more of a "when the levee breaks" kinda guy to get in the mood.
