Washington (CNN) -- Reluctant approval from Congress for providing military support to Syrian rebels allows the Obama administration to move forward with plans first announced almost six weeks ago.

White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters on Tuesday that the goal of the military aid expected to include small arms, ammunition and perhaps anti-tank weapons is to keep the Syrian opposition going against forces aligned with President Bashar al-Assad's regime.

It's a freaking mess. I have a hard time not imagining a humanitarian effort of some sort to thwart such madness- especially in light of news such as this.

Makes you wonder huh? 3+ years and NOTHING. But hey, we're arming the Rebels and IS at the same time. You can't make this shit up, unreal.

    Just brutal, man.

A generation of people's lives destroyed with violence and mayhem.

We won the lottery of life born and living where we do. Imagine the legitimate fear those people face. I think the risks we see them take to escape their reality speaks to the horrors they are exposed to.

I'm torn. Yes, I want everyone to provide as much help against ISIS as possible. But i can't ignore how giving arms to militants in other countries has turned out in history. Tough one.

"It turns out that only 60 of these fighters have been properly trained, and as few as four or five people actually carry weapons," he said. "The rest of them have deserted with the American weapons to join ISIS," he said referring to Islamic State.

Well it certainly sounds like an unbeatable force to me. I really don't understand where all the money being spent on the military is going. Why can't all these nations' efforts not fight ISIS more effectively? I would have thought they'd have at least learned something useful in the failed fight against the Taliban, but apparently not.
