  • Hedonist.... A friend called me the night before the event and asked if I wanted to go. She had an extra ticket. I wasn't registered for the event and I sat so far away from the stage there is no way John could see my facial expressions.

I was always very careful to reply with as few words as possible; a simple "yes" or "no." The skeptic in me didn't want to give anything away. He had people with microphones at various areas of the hall (Constitution Hall) and when someone acknowledged that he might be referring to them, someone would give them a microphone and John would ask a few more questions to make sure he had the right person, as he did in my case with the lady a few rows ahead of me.

People assume maybe I spoke of some of these things and John has microphones and cameras everywhere before the show or that he had my name and did a little research. But I spoke to no one before or at the event about these things; we were late getting there and sat down just before it started. Again, I wasn't even registered to be there.

If this hadn't happened to me I'd have a hard time believing it. On a side note-- my mom watched the John Edward show and read one of his books. Before she died, I asked her to come up with a "sign" that if I ever went to see him that I would know it was her coming through. All she said was "trust me, you'll know." Kind of makes me feel bad that I am still not 100% convinced. But the only thing I can account for John's being so right on so many specific things is that he can do what he says or he's great at making generalizations personal.

Were I given an opportunity to attend, I'd go, even if only out of curiosity. I know how just a name can yield a plethora of personal information but since I'm not on any social media (except here!), it'd be interesting to see what happens. I often wonder about my dad, who died six years ago. I've smelled/sensed him just twice since then, and it brought such comfort (bit of sadness too, but that's par for the course).

Sounds like you and your mom were tight. Her saying "trust me, you'll know" made me smile.

As to "making generalizations personal", I hear you. In a psychology course taken years ago, we were given a personality quiz. Are you introverted, spontaneous, what would you do in X situation, etc. Couple days later, the results arrive and are handed out. The class is asked how accurately they were assessed, and almost everyone raised their hand as a "yes".

We were all given the exact same assessment.
  • Every one thinks I am intuitive--- maybe this is what helped me "connect"--- though skeptical, I was open to the possibility of energy we don't yet know about or understand. Sounds like you are intuitive and open too--you already recognized some things you can connect with your dad.

Regarding your comment about the showmanship factor--- that was something I grappled with too, but my view is that he is providing an affordable forum for those curious like me. Is he exploiting the grieving to make a living? I don't know. My sense is he believes in what he is doing.

What can't be denied though, is how I felt when he was "connecting" me and my mom-- it was a sense of peace and comfort like you mentioned above at the smell/sound of your dad. It felt good.

By the way, this occurred about ten years ago--- much before the plethora of social media we have today.

If you ever get a chance to go, I hope you will remember this conversation and send me a message or post something. (I am rarely on here, so a message would be better). I'd be interested in your experience and thoughts about it.

I always remember the conversations that have impacted me in some way - typically in the positive sense. I put this one in that box :)

Will definitely let you know what happens if it does.

And, I hope you check in here more often. Always appreciate thoughtful eloquence and honesty.

  • I have a friend whose mother attended a John Edwards show, and he picked on her as well. He told her things that she already knew as well and added info about the spirit that watches over her and her farm (she already knew this as well and her greenhouses have some funny stuff happen in them). It wasn't shocking to her at all. But I do feel a bit funny about people like Edwards who make money off of their talent (seems sketchy). And I believe in mediums, but I know that there are so many fakes out there, that it's difficult to know who is the real deal.

I used to have a friend in Long Island.. ( not that Caputo chick either), and we'd talk on the phone a lot.. She always claimed to be psychic.. I never believed her.. Until one day I was making a sandwich in the kitchen while on the phone with her.. Now mind you.. This is way ore cell phone.. Pre google etc.. It was 1991. We had one of those cheesy bulky cores things.. So we're talking.. And as I go to put the knife in the sink, she asks me why we changed the curtains.. I stammered a bit.. Cause I was taken a back by that. Which curtains I ask. She says.. ( and this is the creepy part cause she was dead on!!) the kitchen curtains, they used to be blue floral, but yesterday your step mom changed them to mauve floral.. I really liked that blue.. It fit better.. Which was rely freaky, because everyone had pretty much said the same thing!!
Then another time I was talking to her, I was in the barn at school, and she called the barn line to tell me one of the school's horses was caught in barbed wire in the south field! She was right then too! Really really weird.. I lived in Cakifornia then too! So it was across the country!
    Creepy creepy!

We met through AIC, but she went to a few PJ shows with me too. I wonder what ever happened to her..

it's not creepy at all. that's just the way it is. it comes in & that is that. it happens quite regularly, it's good stuff. i find it odd that folks don't believe. so you thought your friend was just bullshitting you, you know, to fuck w/ your head & stuff? i've never had anyone tell me they were psychic & they weren't. i know a number of them. we find one another somehow. good stuff. more are scared to say much. i would wager that there are a great deal of them out there & any one us could be friends with them & not know (but we kinda do know actually). i have friends that know jack squat about me. it's not something we go around announcing. but my friends & family that know, they know sure as shit it isn't bullshit

it turns out my g/f is becoming quite gifted with this stuff her own darn self. w/ have one hell of a thing going on between us.

Ok,got a new one for ya Chad.
My wife was walking our dogs the other night and comes home all freaked out and says"I heard my mom (who passed 7 years ago)say out if nowhere "Tell her to drive safe."So my wife answered audibly, ok momma.Although she was alone.
Being spooked she called my daughter at college and said I need you to drive safe tonight and told her the story of how she heard a message or warning from her mother. My daughter being down with the vibe, agreed to be safe.
Later in the evening we get a call from our daughter thanking my wife for the warning as on her way home from work a guy stumbled in front of her car on a busy dark road and if she had not been super attentive to her speed and the road she would have run him over. Then about 5 min later while still freaked out and driving even slower ,a car ran a stop sign and almost t-boned her.But due to her being on the ball she was able to miss the wreck which she said if it was any other night she woulda been jamming music and talking on phone and probably speeding. Both my wife and daughter were totally spooked by this happenstance and I can't say I blame them.

Bit spooky but very cool, rr (and whispering too).

No driving and talking on the phone for your daughter! Glad she's safe.

So Chad, you seem to know a but about this stuff.. When my Mother died on 2007, I moved into her room, and inherited her cat. This cat never meowed very often, but when he did it was really loud and really long! So one night about a week after her passing, I'm actually asleep, and I wake up to Buddy meowing hysterically ( which is not normal for this cat at ALL). And I sit up, and I swear I see my mom standing at the end of the bed, pointing at the shoe closet. I shook my head, and she was gone.. But I was freaked out.. We never found anything in the shoe closet.. Just her left over Meth baggies, and some weird letters to no one we knew..
Do the dead visit is for no reason? What could she have been trying to tell me other than to clean up her last mess?? I never did understand that..any ideas?

saying good-bye, she's watching over you type deal, things like this. read those letters again. "do the dead visit us for no reason?" oh there's a reason

after grandma died of cancer (dad's mom) grandpa quite quickly got himself a g/f. one night as they lie in bed sound asleep these brass bells on velvet ropes (hanging on the wall) just went ape shit nuts. windows closed, no fans going.... yeah, grandma wasn't to thrilled. this would be around the time i saw her myself as i was doing push ups or sit ups w/ my brothers as our parents sat there on the sofa in front of us. bam i stop 'for some reason' mid way in the push up or sit up, i turn around 'for some reason' & there she is sure as shit.... saying good-bye type deal & she's my guarding angel

    can't go wrong w/ grandma

after years of things happening one grows familiar w/ the, 'for some reason' feeling that comes w/ it.

Thank you. I will try to research who the people were in the letters..
