hysterical review in Philly Inquirer

check out this part of a review by Keith Harris, in Monday's Phila Inquirer........
"their audience has a clear idea of what PJ is and is not. Just ask the poor auxilary keyboardist who accompanied Vedder on show opener "Life Wasted" drawing prolonged boos."
Is that a classic or what?
Keith Harris is a musical genius.
Next time, do some research, Keith.

Most times, journalists have an e-mail address at the end of their columns> I say flood his inbox with taunts of his laziness and lack of background reserach. He must have really thought the crowd hated Springsteen first time he ever came to town too. . . . what an idiot.
These people should not be paid to write this stuff
"The live shows? Well, that's church on Sundays"
I wrote him the following:
Dan,
====================================================
Please help out your fellow columnist Keith Harris. He had a HUGE blunder in yesterday’s Pearl Jam concert review. The below excerpt is from Keith’s review.
“Their audience certainly has a clear idea of what Pearl Jam is and is not. Just ask the poor auxiliary keyboardist who accompanied Vedder on show opener "Life Wasted," drawing prolonged boos. That disapproving chorus died out as the full band joined in to finish the song,”
These fans were not booing the keyboardist. They were shouting out his name, Boom Gasper. He is very much loved by the fans and is considered the “6th member of PJ” (similar to how Billy Preston was considered the 5th Beatle. Boom has toured with Pearl Jam since 2003, and is credited with writing at least part of the song “Love Boat Captain”. Information about Boom is readily available at (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boom_Gasper).
Music critics (particularly for rock/pop music) have a reputation of being second tier journalists and Keith didn’t help that generality. Could you imagine if a Sports writer from San Francisco wrote “The Giant fans don’t appreciate their often injured Left Fielder (Moises Alou), every time he came up the crowd booed him mercilessly.
Wouldn’t you think Keith would have asked a fan during or after the concert why they were booing the Keyboardist (Pearl Jam fans are hard core – I would recommend reading the following recent article about Pearl Jam fans in EW (http://www.ew.com/ew/report/0,6115,1191033_4_0_,00.html) . How many Rock concerts have you ever been to when a member of the band was boo’ed (OK, maybe this happens more in Philadelphia than other places) ? Especially booing directed towards the “auxiliary keyboardist? I know there must be some pressure to get a column in quickly but doesn’t someone (editor, proof reader, fact checker) say “this doesn’t sound right”. Didn’t Keith find it just a little unusual that the laid back Pearl Jam crowd (which many other columnist compare to “Dead heads”) were booing the Keyboardist after the opening song.

I'm sorry to bother you with this ... but I believe a correction may be in order regarding Keith Harris' review of the Pearl Jam show from Saturday night. He writes, "Their audience certainly has a clear idea of what Pearl Jam is and is not. Just ask the poor auxiliary keyboardist who accompanied Vedder on show opener "Life Wasted," drawing prolonged boos. That disapproving chorus died out as the full band joined in to finish the song, and then segued immediately afterward into the frantically antiwar "World Wide Suicide."
The keyboard player (actually, he plays a B3 organ) is named Boom Gasper. At each Pearl Jam show, the fans (and I'm one, I've been to about 15 shows in the past three years) greet Boom with a chorus of "BOOOOOOOOM!" It is definitely not boos, as your correspondent (I'm assuming he's a correspondent as his byline reads "For the Inquirer") mistakenly reported.
The song he is referring to is actually two songs, "Wasted Reprise" and "Life Wasted." "Wasted Reprise," with the B3 accompanying Vedder vocals, is near the end of the new album. Like many great classic rock bands before them, including The Who and The Beatles, Pearl Jam included a reprise track. The band's set list is never the same. Each night is something different, which makes seeing them live a remarkable thing.
I think Harris' confusion about Gasper's reception from fans completely clouds his perspective on the show, as he references it again further down his piece.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO TO YOU, YOU BLEW IT !! YOU SHOULD ALWAYS HAVE A CLUE ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE WRITING ABOUT !! IT SURE HELPS ANYWAY, BECAUSE THEN YOU DON'T GET A FLOOD OF FLACK LIKE I'M SURE YOU ARE GETTING !! AND RESPECTS TO YOU BOOM (GASPAR), YOU ARE INTEGRAL ENOUGH THAT YOU CONTINUE TO TOUR WITH THE REST OF THE BAND !!
I believe he's a correspondent, and not one of their regulars. His byline says, "For the Inquirer," rather than having his email or "Of The Inquirer" below his name. He probably got paid as a stringer to cover the show. It was probably a tight weekend for them, holiday weekends are tough to staff at newspapers.

Hi! I recently read your online review of the recent Pearl Jam show - 'Pearl Jam gets refreshingly direct'. I find it quite laughable that you, the editor, would publish an article like this with no research.
To quote:
Their audience certainly has a clear idea of what Pearl Jam is and is not.
If your journalist Keith Harris had a clue, he would know that the 'auxiliary keyboardist' is 'Boom" Gasper.
Maybe he should research before he writes. I look forward to a correction by you or Mr. Harris in the upcoming days.
Thanks for your time, just remember it is Always good to do research before you publish - Journalism 101.

Editor's note: A review of Pearl Jam that appeared in Monday's Inquirer incorrectly characterized the audience's reponse to the keyboardist at Saturday's show. The audience was not booing Kenneth "Boom" Gasper, but cheering him on by chanting his nickname.
Should we shout Kenneth next time to not confuse Mr. Harris?

You corrected a man while using an incorrectly spelled last name. Gasper.
The rewrite, I guess, is quite good though.
