Props to Eddie Vedder....
...for controlling the crowd...when he said, "do you trust me" and spoke to the crowd right before what ended up almost a 3 hour rain delay, I feel he saved us all from what could have been a very chaotic, scary, and angry mob. Calming effect and I felt as everyone knew the show would go on by what he said. Just pointing it out that he had great crowd control and kept everyone sane...so we trusted and got like 25 more songs...will always trust ya!!

I think he handled it well. That said, a good number of people around me on the field came back, sat down and in some cases fell asleep during the rest of the show. :fp:
Nobody, 50 people in any direction on the field where I was was going to "rage"...as they were all ready for bed. :fp:0 -

Yeah, he did a great job with the crowd, but he can't control the weather and most sane people understand that. I didn't sense any angst or mob mentality at any point during the day or into the night. Only thing I saw was a little pushing and shoving at the front merch table.Las Cruces, NM Pan Am Center September 14, 1995

Yeah, he did do a great job... I saw one or two drunk jackasses in the concession line bitching about what no one could help (the line ups for food - very hot and 45 minute lines), but other than that everyone seemed pretty calm, cool, and collected. I would say that many were just getting really sleepy (I never realized that some people get so tired just because they're out past 12! As a regular all-nighter, I guess I only see other all-nighters that late usually!
). Of course, all the drinking was probably the biggest problem because it was cut off at 11:30, and by the time 1:00 rolled around a lot of people were suffering from waking hangovers... Not to mention all the heat stroke. Of course, there were also plenty of people going strong to the end as well.
Either way, everyone was awesome and very very patient, and Ed certainly had a hand in that, and considering the circumstances, it went as well as it possibly could have... And EV sounded INCREDIBLE, which certainly didn't hurt.
I only really saw people start to crack in the train station. IMO, it wasn't THAT bad... It was a weird scene, but ultimately just a test of one's patience (except for the woman who collapsed in the platform - that was potentially very dangerous, since 10,000 people were clogging up the entrances for paramedics. Luckily she woke up, although probably still went to hospital). For the most part it was Really just more of what people had been dealing with for hhours and hours: standing in incredible temperatures jammed in with tons of people waiting in line longer than expected. That was just when some people reached their breaking point and turned into big whiny babies. But again, others took it like champs and made the best of it, which I really appreciated. And even those who were losing it seemed simply exhausted, not mad (with a few noteable exceptions). I was personally pretty thrilled once actually on the train because it was well air-conditioned and I somehow lucked out with a seat! :P
And after all that, the biggest props to Eddie and the rest of the band, and the Wrigley staff especially. I was impressed with all! Talk about rolling with the punches! With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata0 -
Ed handled it magnificently IMO. The fact that he was basically committing to finishing the show without having any control over the duration of the delay (obviously) was big and very assuring.0

Pj_soul, glad to see your post that the lady woke up! We were up there, but decided to hop on the train headed the other way when it arrived empty just to get out of there. Lucky for us, right after we decided that we were already in boarding position when they announced that train would actually be headed into downtown. I wondered how she was, but didn't know how to find out! At least I know this much now, hopefully everything was ok after, too!
As for Eddie asking us to trust him, something about that moment will always be in my memories. So many from that night will be, for sure! Ups and uncontrollable downs(weather, mostly.)it's all part of the experience!"How I choose to feel,... Is how I am."

I agree with the others...when Eddie asked us to trust him was a very special and memorable moment. They way he said it was so sincere. I'm glad I was there to trust him and that moment will be in my memory as will so many others from that night.5/3/92 Omaha, NE

It's amazing!! He has always done that! But Friday was astoundingly well behaved, and organized exit from the field! My sister and I went out to the upper balcony and stood in the crazy rain! Yeah I live that shit, but my point was.. The vibe was all just chill, patient.. At one point, I started to cry, thinking if they didn't come back out, I was never going to be able to save back up to do trip #2!!! Right as the first tear rolled I got the text telling me they were uncovering equipment!! And aside from the whole GA fiasco which was bullshit! Every one returned in just as orderly a fashion!
Wow! I think that was one of the longest run on sentences in history!!0 -

I also thought it was a special moment. We should get "I trust Eddie" shirts made, haha. It's funny, I didn't feel bad about the weather delay. I felt terrible for Eddie actually. We all know that it was one of his dreams to play Wrigley and they had to stop because of weather, and a potential cancellation. I kept thinking about how bad he must of felt. But, the show went on, and they killed it! I am so glad I was there. I am still smiling about it. I am reinvigorated for the fall tour, BRING IT!!!!!!!!40+ shows, it is never enough!0
