cleveland - security - booted :(

I'm pretty disappointed with last night in Cleveland. I'm from NY, drive there with a buddy, have a great time until (and yes it's my fault)...

Guy next to me hands me a joint, I take it. I take a puff and the cherry falls out. Security comes and grabs me and says "you need to go". :( It was during Wasted Reprise. I've been to many a show, and I know I'm not supposed to smoke pot in an arena (or anywhere else for that matter), but it was a guy saying "here dude", and I got caught with it. Happened in like 10 seconds. Now... I'm about as threatening as the guy on Blue's Clues....

The guard who said I had to go was initially a real dick. He was telling me I was going to jail! :) So I sort of chuckle and say, "Man, it wasn;t even my weed and I apologize for putting you in a position to do your job. If I told you about how my week went, you'd shit your pants, all I can say is I cannot afford to be arrested for this, I'm from NY and I am not being oppositional, please just let me leave."

Well, we approach the exit and this cop is there and the guard says, "He had a joint, caught him, he needs to go"... and walks away. So I am walking the rest of the way with the cop and I say, "Sir I'm sorry again for this but I do not have any drugs on me and I am relatively sober, and not resisting, can I please just go." He let me.

FYI I had a heart attack on Monday (6 days ago, I'm 32 and in good shape, but the white lady and stress from girl got me finally) and my GF is going to rehab from being on probation for drinking and driving. We're pretty much done, so breakup after 2.5 years and heart attack. This is what I meant when I told the guard about my week. I don't really know what my point is :)

I guess it's don't smoke weed or be very careful when doing so inside an arena.

However, afterwards, I realized my jacket was still in my seat with my buddy who didn;t have a cell phone. So I approached with tact (:) and explained to them... from NY... buddy no cell.... jacket inside.... he won;t find me otherwise bc we're leaving afterwards....

and they actually were cool enough to escort me back to my seat and I was able to see Black and the beginning of Alive while stalling a little.

Anyway that was my night. What do you guys think?

i had a similar experience back in 1991 at a guns n roses concert at wembley stadium in london. I was 16 at the time and had camped out at the venue overnight with some buddies so we could get front row when the gates opened. Anyway, next day was like 90 degrees. we were all having fun at the front, the queue was 20 wide and a mile deep, Someone started tossing water bottles and food, it was quite funny. It went on for about 20 minutes when this empty plastic bottle landed at my feet. I picked it up and threw back into the crowd. Next, this big security guy picks me up and escorts me out the stadium parking area. I was protesting my innocence but he wasnt listening. This all happened 10 minutes before opening time. I had to push my way back through loads of people without getting spotted by the security guys. I managed to get in but was way back and never found my friends. I was pissed off after waiting so long from the night before. It taught me a lesson though. The good guys always lose out.

that's bullshit, a person should get a warning before they are ejected, it is a frickin rock concert after all. But knowing that a lot of security people are A-holes, you really have to keep your toking on the down low...

I'm glad you posted this. It reminds me to behave.
I have lit up a cigarette and taken a hit or two then put it out during shows. I won't be tonight.
My bf always says to me when I do it, "is that really worth getting kicked out?".
I always tend to think, "well everyone around me is doing it".
Not tonight. I will wear a nicotine patch. Yes, I am that addicted.

i quit after the cleveland show on saturday... so do NOT let me bum one at the pre-show meetup ;)
  • one of my friends got booted from the Toronto show last sept. cus he was sitting in his chair and was staring at his feet during the opening band. Security must have thought he was asleep and just tossed him out.

Still havent ruled out them tracking him down as being one of us morons drinking a bottle of red whilst walking into the venue.

Needless to say he got pissed, tried to get back in a couple times and ended up in the drunk tank for the night. F'n security

Just because it's a rock concert doesn't give you the right to break the law.

    This isn't the 60's, pal.

I wish those two fuckers smoking right in front and behind me got kicked out at the Cleveland show.

You're right, it's not the 60's, and I would still hope that folks are cool enough to let others go enjoy music in their own way, whether that be drinking, smoking or just grooving. As long as it's in moderation and not interfering with others' enjoyment, why should you care? To each their own. Let's face it, many people will smoke at concerts. Don't go to a concert and then act surprised or infuriated that someone was enjoying the music while taking a puff. You would be better off by ignoring the folks smoking around you and just enjoying the show yourself. You're at a PJ show, not church.

the other side of that arguement is don't be surprised if you get tossed for breaking a law. It was brilliantly put earlier, fight the laws, not the enforcement of them.

Besides being "relatively sober" and puffing a J six days after a heart attack just screams Darwin Award.

I agree completely. If you're going to smoke, recognize that it's illegal (whether or not it's wrong) and play it cool. I'm not fighting enforcement, I'm just saying that perhaps folks shouldn't be so worried about what others are doing around them if it's not bothering them. I was just responding to the person who was so upset because people were actually smoking at a concert. No surprise and no concern. I would much rather have someone smoking around me than drinking, and on a personal note I think it should be every bit as legal as drinking because I belive that it's less harmful and destructive than drinking.

so it was ok to break the law and smoke pot at concerts in the 60s, but not now? what gives?

    Its fuckin' pot...big deal.

No, I was refering to the people who have the "It's a rock n' roll concert so I can do whatever the fuck I want" mentality.

How can I ignore it when it's going into my face which causes ME discomfort and causes ME to not be able to enjoy the show because I keep sneezing and rubbing my eyes because some asshole can't walk the fuck out to the smoking area.

By that logic, shouldn't we be looking at prohibition again, instead of legalizing pot???

In Toronto there were so many people smoking that it was easier to pinpoint those not doing it, or so it seemed. Anyway, the point is they threw like 2 guys out of the 3 sections surrounding me. It's hard, for me at least, to justify throwing out someone when there are so many people doing it right around them. That's all.
