Lifelong Pittsburgher deciding to jump in and answer a few...I have tix for show that I won through local radio station, but I'm still waiting to see where they are. Radio station tix have to be decent, right?
Anyways, Fathead Saloon is great for bar food...best wings in Pittsburgh, too. Southside is not walking distance from the arena, though. If you need a taxi after the show, I suggest walking down to the Omni William Penn on Grant...taxis are always lined up behind the hotel. Food around the arena is somewhat limited and crowded. Market Square is within walking distance of show (about 6 blocks) and has lots of food options. Theatre District is close to Market Square and they have lots of restaurant options, too. Underground subway is free from arena (Gateway Station) to North Shore (where Pirates/Steelers play). If you drive, parking is cheaper in heart of city ($5-$7) and worth the walk up the hill to the arena. Parking around arena will be $15-$20. Consol is way better for shows than the old Mellon/Civic Arena. I have Pens season tickets there, and I've already seen around 10 concerts there (McCartney/Muse/Chili Peppers/Foos/VH, etc., etc.). Upper bowl is very steep though (and no cupholders). Lower levels are much more comfortable. Sound has been pretty good throughout the arena.Pittsburgh - 09/05. Pittsburgh 5/25
Cleveland - 05/10. Pittsburgh 5/25
Pittsburgh - 10/13
Brooklyn - 10/13
MSG- 5/16
Wrigley - 8/180 -

Long story short: My friend tried smoking a cigarette on the floor and came very close to getting kicked out. Luckily, he was very cool about it and he offered to give them his smokes, showed his ticket, and apologized.
They snuck up from NOWHERE and escorted us off the floor. I'd hate to have that happen to anyone on here.
The Consol workers are really good at seeking people out for smokes ... It's incredibleThe in between is mine.0 -

Yes ... great food ... but not close to the venue. It's in the South Side on Carson ...which is across the river from the Consol. The in between is mine.0 -
