The Hampton Inn & Suites is my favorite hotel in Bricktown. Depending on your room, you may have a view into our minor league baseball stadium. It's about a 5 minute walk to the arena. The Sheraton is really nice too. Hilton owns a historic hotel named the Skirvin that is also a walk away from the arena. OKC has really just developed in the last decade or so and all hotels in Bricktown are really nice and a simple walk away. TapWerks will make the perfect place for the pre-party. Be aware of a Knights Inn @ Bricktown. It's not really in Bricktown and in a truckstop corner about 2 miles east of Bricktown. Airport area hotels are nice as well and only about a 20 minute drive away, very easy highway route.

OU plays Iowa State that Saturday in Norman. Norman is about 30 minutes south of OKC. Depending on the kickoff time, you may be able to catch the game or grab a tailgate experience ..... or see where Mookie Blaylock played college basketball! There are plenty of bars in the Bricktown area that are within walking distance from the arena. The area is extremely safe for families at night. The OKC Bombing Memorial is nice to see and is a short drive or really even walking distance away from the arena.

There are a few really cool record shops in the area. Guestroom Records has a small shop in Bricktown and another a short drive away. Size Records is another shop to check out and is a short drive away as well.

Someone mentioned that we have a Flaming Lips Alley in Bricktown that makes a cool photo op spot. You can actually look up and see where Wayne Coyne lives and drive by his house (a really cool place in a very low rent area, but really safe part of downtown OKC)...hell knock on his door and say what up.

We also have a new area called the Boathouse District (on the River). There are some activities worth looking into at http://riversportokc.org/

Just a few thoughts....enjoy your time in OKC!

    THANK YOU for this!!

  • For out-of-towners:

Despite anecdotes to the contrary, there are several things to do in OKC if you need to kill some time before the show.

    1) Oklahoma City Bombing Memorial: A must for anyone traveling from outside of Oklahoma. It's about 5 blocks north of the arena and is pretty overwhelming.
    2) Bricktown: OKC's bar/entertainment district. Several worthwhile bars have opened in the past five years. Tapwerks has the largest selection of craft beer in Oklahoma. It's heaven.
    3) MidTown: Approximately half a mile north of the venue. MidTown has several new bars/restaurants and has plenty of retail to keep you busy. McNellie's is a great pub for those of you seeking some good beer.
    4) River District: For those of you wanting to exercise during your stay, the River District has 13 miles of paved trails for running/cycling. There are two boathouses on the river for kayaking, as well.
    5) Paseo Arts District: OKC's arts district, home to several local arthouses and retail shops. Awesome bars/restaurants, as well.
    6) Plaza District: Hipster central. Home to several local retail shops, vintage stores, and some awesome local restaurants.

For those of you who haven't been here before, be advised that public transportation here is nearly non-existent. Your best bet getting anywhere outside of DownTown/Bricktown is a cab. As long as you are in the Bricktown/MidTown/Downtown area, there are plenty of sidewalks to get around. Wonder outside of that area, though, and its nearly impossible to get around efficiently on foot/bike.

Will be making the trip from San Antonio to Dallas (Reserve), and then the following day to OKC for GA! First time seeing PJ in GA, really psyched! Maybe we should try to meet up early for some pre show boozing! Lets do this! :D

    Same, except reserved for both.

Lucked out and got GA (coming from Dallas, where I got reserved)

Plan to be there early in the day and hit Bricktown before the show. Doubt I'll queue to get a super close spot, don't really think it'll matter much with such a small GA section. It'll be a great view from anywhere that close IMO.

I think someone mentioned a bar called Tapwerks in a previous post as a good spot. 3 floors and 100 beers. I am game for that :)
