I read his name in a thread somewhere on a message board. But they didn't actually include any valuable information or even a link so I pretty much ignored it.

Another senseless killing. The reason I support Morris Dees' Southern Poverty Law Center. They are opposed to all hate crimes.

That said, the fact remains that far more hate crimes are committed by whites against blacks as opposed to the other way around. According the the FBI, 70% of hate crimes are committed against blacks:

I think many of us see the real issue here. It's an excuse for the usual suspects on here to run around and scream "white people are the victims of crime too". Nobody disputes this fact, but their incessant bleating and attempts to reframe history, away from the oppression of minorities by our race wears a little thin at times.

The fact that a thread needs to be created when one of these people fumbles across a story between Fox News being in an add break and waiting for their Glenn beck video to load up is quite telling.

For me the issue is the lack of media outrage. I understand i should not be - as there is no money to be made and the usual black voices are silent.

And my disappointment is aimed at the conservative news as well.

And I actually agree, it is what it is, a crime for which the perpetrators should be punished, nothing more. Attempts to compare this to recent events are laughable.

I'm really not comparing the two crimes I'm just pointing out that when a white guy kills a black guy it's a race/hate crime but the other way around it's a race/hate crime on this forum and in the media and then somebody always throws the race history in there as if to say it's o.k,I just don't undrstand that at all.

Well I don't know what posts your reading, I haven't seen anyone justifying the crime on the grounds of racial history. It's a crime, people need to be punished for it, why the need to split hairs?

Not necessarily.

When a white kills a black guy in a convenience store robbery, or a drug deal gone bad, or for running a red light and crashing into his car, or just a falling out among some criminal buddies, it's not a hate crime. It's a reprehensible taking of another's life, but it's not hate-motivated.

But when said white guy goes out looking for trouble and decides he will visit it upon someone because they are black, Asian, Latino, gay, Sikh or Muslim and therefore inferior to him and deserving of ill treatment, it becomes a hate crime.

Many hate crimes are not reported or prosecuted as such. The majority of them are assaults and it's easier to investigate, prosecute and convict someone of simple assault rather than as a hate crime. It makes it easier for hate crimes to occur and to go unreported if they aren't going to be treated as such and it limits public awareness of many of these crimes.
