6 1/2 years. Just called to give my two weeks notice 5 minutes ago, and got a voicemail. I hate giving 2 weeks notice, and it is even worse when nobody answers and it gets put off a little longer. I called our HR guy, and he didn't answer so I left a message for him to call back. Should I wait for his call back, or call the owner directly and talk to him? Monday would be the start of my final two weeks, I'm afraid maybe our HR guy is off today or something, and not sure if I should wait till Monday to tell them?

Put it in writing, either via email or a letter. So even if they don't get it until next week, you're still giving your two weeks notice.

I work in HR and I strongly advise everyone, ALWAYS give your employer two weeks notice.

Congrats! Been at mine for six years and I love it too.

Great people, challenging work, relaxed but professional environment, and a five-minute commute - can't beat it.

I know that you are right, but for me, this depends on the culture of the workplace you're leaving and the perceived security of the job you're taking.

A few years back, a buddy of mine told the boss on Friday that he was starting a new job on Monday.

It's about not burning your bridges. We don't provide information on the quality of the work a person did while they were employed here, but we will answer the question "is this person eligble for rehire?" If they did not provide two weeks notice, they are not eligible. Replying no to that question will send up a red flag for the person inquiring about your past employment.

Wouldn't it be nice if companies gave their employees two weeks' notice before they were going to be laid off so that they could get their affairs in order?

3 years last March. Enjoy my job for the most part. It's a pleasant place to work and I can't say that about some of my past jobs.

3 years-ish...I make my own hours, I do whatever the fuck I want, the pay sucks though.
