Mind Your Manners Lyrics and Interpretation

Here’s my best attempt at interpreting the lyrics: I believe the song is about how it is somehow considered rude to condemn religion or even openly confess disbelief despite the deplorable actions of the church such as child rape. We can find fulfillment without relying on faith. We might not have another chance at life, or ever understand it, which is why we shouldn't squander our potential by complacently awaiting for a god to intervene. Religions seem well-intentioned but have made our lives a living hell here on earth.
Mind Your Manners
I've got an unfortunate feeling
I've been beaten down
I feel I don’t believe and now the truth is coming out
What they’ll take is more than a vow
They've taken your innocence
and then they throw them on a burning pyre ha ha hey hey
All along they’re saying
Mind your manners
I caught myself believing that I needed god
And if it’s out there somewhere
We sure could use it now
Tried my patience
My patience tried
This world's so lonely that it all
Makes me want to cry ha ha hey hey
All along they’re saying
Mind your manners
So they’re saying
Self-realized and metaphysically redeemed
May not live another life
May not solve our mystery
Right around the corner could be bigger than ourselves
We could will it to the sky
Or we could something else
All along they’re saying
Mind your manners
Always praying
Self-realized and metaphysically redeemed
May not live another life
May not solve our mystery
Right around the corner could be bigger than ourselves
We could will it to the sky
Or we could something else
Go to heaven
That’s swell
How do you like it?
Livin’ in hell
Go to heaven
That’s swell
How do you like it?
Livin’ in hell
Go to heaven
That’s swell
How do you like it?
Livin’ in hell
Living in hell

you hit the nail on the head. after about 15 listens in my car today, i was thinking he's railing against the catholic church sex scandals....and then, as a catholic disillusioned with the church, this song instantly grew on me like it hadn't the first few spins.
As for the interpretation? We know Eddie isn't religious, but has been known to question it or whatever at times... A punk version of Faithfull or Given to Fly maybe?
The one line you have with question marks: that one sounds more like "This world...so alone" or something to that effect, which may make sense with the next line being "Makes me want to cry."
Nice work!
Cause I agree with them wholeheartedly! I think maybe a Humanist perspective is where Eddie ( if he is writer of song) is coming from here!

you only needed to say this one time.
You did not need to tell me that because I only meant to post it one time. I can't always control this computer malfunction,(where hitting enter once equals two posts). So there was no intent to post it twice.
I currently believe this song was written for all the disenchanted teachers in America and their innocent students who get thrown on a burning pile while the administrators and politicians tell us to shut up and behave. Every word in this song fits how I feel about my job and every chord expresses the rage I feel at the grossly dysfunctional system that will never change in my or your children's lifetime.
There's my depressing post of the day.
