I have bought several things through the boards. I think it is a great way to buy/sell to/from fans. What difference does it make? Maybe the solution is to request a sale/trade sub folder.
WTF, is this Craigslist or Ebay or something?
Everyday there are more and more things for sale here.
Yeah people should stop going to the best place to buy and sell PJ items just because you are tired of seeing the threads....That is like listing you car for sale but chosing not to put it in the auto trader because you think there are too many cars for sale already....Although not the safest place for buying and selling stuff, I would have to say that there is no better place to advertise your shit...If you pay close attention to those threads you will see that alot of sales are done through here, so I say put more up...
.....I need an A/P hartford 98....I don't have a first born to throw in but I will part with $500 for it..hit me up with a PM...

Point well taken. Here is another thought. "trade your posters here" thread sucks because it is 25 pages, and by the time you read through the whole thing, half of them are already gone. If there was a forum for sales, people could just create individual threads on their items, instead of cramming 30 pages into one thread, AND the people who dont want to see all the sale threads dont have to see them at all.

THat is sort of what I was thinking. I mean either way people are going to sell stuff. And as much as people complain about people selling stuff, not too many people have problems either buying stuff for a jacked up price, or trading something that is worth a lot. So if all this stuff is happening anyways why not give the fans on this board a first crack at all this good stuff for sale.

I do believe someone on the AET forum suggested we have a "pearl jam marketplace" because everyone needs/wants something. Whether its an old sofa or a pimped out hawaii 2006 poster.

So lets say PJ releases a new limited edition vinyl and people immediately begin flipping it in the market forum?
On one hand, its an open market and you can do what you want once you buy the item. But on the other hand, its a dick move to take it away from someone who legitimately wants the item just so you can turn around and flip it for something else.
I could see this causing quite a bit of controversy and leading to the market being shut down.

and this is a problem why? i fucking hate ebay and would much rather trade with fans directly and not some person trying to make a mint off something that belongs in the hands of a fan (see my thread about trading my Ames Hawaii 2006).

Two reasons that wouldn't bother me that much. First no one is forcing people to pay inflated prices for merchandise, people do it out of their own choice. I mean I would love to buy a Seattle 98, but making car payments is more important to me, I don't blame the guy selling the poster for that much because I decided I wanted a new car. Second, if PJ and the fan club really cared about people flipped limited edition stuff, they would stop making so much limited edition stuff. I mean you don't see anyone trying to flip PJ socks.
what I hate, which can't be stopped, is poachers posting in another's thread...for instance I have a poster I want to sell. Next thing you know there are 10 other pit members putting what they have to sell in my thread thus diverting the attention away from the original reason why the thread was started thus becoming 25 pages of multiple items for sale...Please start your own threads...

Well, assuming that people would be doing that on ebay anyway...What difference would it make to a market forum??? None. Exactly. Zero.
Glad to see the conversation turning to other options than advertising on the Porch. Some good points are being made by a lot of people.
I certainly appreciate fans, who are most times forced to sell their precious PJ items, wanting to sell to other hard core fans, I just wish it didn't take over the Pit as it sometimes does.
One thing I would like to see is registered 10c only sellers and buyers. Not for any profit for 10c or anything, but just so there is some sort of traceability to the fans that choose to use this venue for the trading or purchasing of PJ items.

still puts 10c in the middle. maybe the answer is to create a new board dedicated to what members wish?

Not necessarily, when you sign up to trade/buy/sell, you do so with the knowledge that your personal information will be given out in the case of disputes. It is harsh yes, but if you want to trade honestly, it will not be a problem. I have seen many, many, many "do not trade with......" threads over the years and this would help prevent that.
A far as a board for members wishes goes, isn't that the whole premise of a Fan Club in the first place?

do you think part of the problem is people so willing to trust someone they have never met? Or just HAD to have it.
Just because we all like this band doesn't mean we are all fair.I mean we ARE after all human and unfortunate as it is some of play by a different set of rules.
