I hate clowns. :x
I've always hated clowns. :evil:
So imagine my reaction in April, when I received a postcard (one pictured below.) From Portland, Oregon, where I know exactly nobody. Written on the back: "It's been far too long since we've clowned around together. I've decided to come visit you."
:shock:
That's followed by six identical postcards, postmarked across the county and ever closer to Boston. "I'm closer to you..." and various other messages, with the last one from central Massachusetts: "I'm finally HERE. Can't wait to see YOU."

And then, literally the day after I get home from a business trip to San Francisco, a package. "I enjoyed seeing you in San Francisco but I could not work up the nerve to approach you. Instead, here's a little piece of myself from me to you." It was a red clown nose.

Then a CD, which I think I left in the CD player on the boat but haven't yet listened to.

Today, the mail contained a package. It's a copy of Stephen King's "It," with a personal inscription:
"In a city with lights so bright
makes me miss you every night
Here's a novel idea
and a way to keep me near
It's something I wanted to send
read it from beginning to end
I hope the covers keep you tight
I'll see you next Friday NIGHT."

I have my suspicions, because I vaguely recall a discussion about fear of clowns at the Missoula, MT show last fall. Or was it at PJ20 in Alpine Valley? One of those, I'm sure.

I think clowns are creepy too. My dad loved circuses. He also liked to draw and did cartoons. After he died years ago, a friend of his sent me this in the mail because he thought I'd love to have "a memory of my father. Some of his artwork."
Yikes.
(Your clown gifts are way weird. But "It" is a great book.)
