 good wow for sure. the beats are consistently phenomenal and as always jay goes in hard. I love listening through it and reading the lyrics on rap genius. They catch every double entendre and crazy metaphor... awesome stuff.

Listening to the album today. Is there a little nirvana in the first song?

just the references to it. I dont think any beats or samples. But yeah JT is singing Smells chorus, and Jay references Kurt. Then theres another song that references REM's losing my religion

I think Mary J bilge would have been a better choice than Justin timberlake.

    Magna Carta Holy Fail.

This album is bad. A few good beats ruined by half ass lyrics. Almost as bad as Blueprint 3. I will continue to listen to Yeezus instead.

I dont know if i agree. Mary is great but, The overwhelming response ive heard is that if people like anything on the album, its the production and specifically JT's singing on Holy grail. Jayz specifically has singled out JT's singing on it as something special. I think he goes all out on it, myself.

    Jay z sucks

If you want some good rap check out ace hood. Young and really amazing.

Dj Khaled also has some great CDs featuring tons of rappers.. Lil Wayne, Kanye west, ti, young jeezy, akon, and tons of others.

theres debate for sure about how good he is in 2013, but I dont think theres debate at all about the fact he is a legend and will be among the top mc's of all time list. He already is. He put out 2 of the biggest and most influential hip hop records of all time, reasonable doubt, and the blueprint, and 2 others that are now considered to be also near classic-the black album and american gangster.

Its alot like Em or Nas. All 3 put out classic masterpieces early, and their entire careers have been about trying to recapure that lightning in the bottle. But, in terms of how Jay is viewed, the guy is an undisputed legend. period.

Wasnt trying to dismiss jay z so fast.

He is undoubtedly a great musician, and I am a huge fan of his unplugged performance as well as his work he did with linkin park.

I also really like watch the throne that he did with kanye west.

So again not to dismiss jay z, but both his and the new Kanye west cd are pretty widely said to be very lackluster.

On the other hand ace hood is finally reaching stardom and nation wide acclaim. I've listened to him since 2010 and his work is only getting better and better.

Check out blood sweat and tears, amazing rap album of his. You probably have heard hustle hard w lil Wayne he did, as well as the new Bugatti song, that's ace hood also.

Totally disagree about Kanye. His album is solid- one of the best of the year.

    Metacritic average scores:

Yeezus- 85, with two perfect 100 scores, ranked 12th Best Album of the Year so far

Magna Carta Holy Grail- 58 (just flip Kanyes 85 :)), one of the worst scores,

I agree. With Jay-z the response is that he put out a lackluster album a mediocre album, which is true. Kanye, the response is divisive because it pushed boundaries and sounds like nothing in hip hop and like none of his previous work.

Glad I wasn't the only one who felt the MCHG wasn't that good. I love Jay-Z's stuff, and even a less-than-stellar Jay-Z album is still league's above many. This one, though, I just don't feel.
