Krieger, Densmore Bury the Hatchet

To me, this is great news, especially after having just read John Densmore's excellent new book, The Doors Unhinged. The reunion (however brief) was prompted by the recent death of Ray Manzarek. It's just very sad that Ray is not around to bury the hatchet with the two surviving Doors members.

The Doors' Robby Krieger & John Densmore Bury the Hatchet

After years of litigious feuding, guitarist Robby Krieger and drummer John Densmore will come together to honor late keyboardist Ray Manzarek.

Robby Krieger, guitarist for The Doors, has announced that he and fellow surviving member John Densmore will reunite for at least one last time. This long awaited reunion will be to honor former keyboardist for The Doors, Ray Manzarek, who died from cancer in May at the age of 74.

This is a major step forward for the duo who have been feuding since 2002 when Krieger and Manzarek started to tour again under the name The Doors of the 21st Century. What followed was a lawsuit over the rights to the use of The Doors name and a $40 million counter-suit against drummer Densmore. "That's what you do -- if someone sues you, you sue them twice as hard back and hope that they drop the suit," Krieger explained to Rolling Stone. "It was a very stupid idea. We had the worst lawyers."

This reconciliation seems to signify that all that litigation could be water under the bridge. "I can't hate him forever," said Krieger. "I just wish he [Densmore] had wanted to play with Ray and I before this all started."

This, of course, begs the question: What about a reunion tour? Krieger lets it be known that nothing is for certain. "We are going to do at least one show for Ray and have a big send off. That's either the start of it or the end of it, I don't know."

Krieger's right.. It's a shame Densmore held out for so long.
No lead singer (other than Eddie Vedder which was NEVER gonna happen) was good enough for Densmore to reunite.
Kreiger and Ray were about getting the live shows out to the fans (like me) who never saw the Doors live.
I saw them under the "riders on the storm" moniker with the lead singer from Fuel (can't recall his name) who was decent enough to carry the songs.
While I was unimpressed with Ray (who had apparently abandoned his Dual keyboards for a single uninspiring Yamaha keyboard = WTF?)...
Robby Kreiger alone was worth the price of admission.
If you love the DOORS, his signature guitar sound is still as perfect now as it was back then.
He had my jaw dropped with searing solos during "when the music's over" and "roadhouse blues".
And I promised myself I wanted to be in the same room as Krieger to hear him play that epic guitar solo during "light my fire"...
    Made my "bucket list"
So bring back a Doors surviving members tour and run (don't walk) to see/ hear Krieger play live before its too late..

(Ps: buy or download Doors Live in Detroit for the best live boot they ever released ; Jim was sober and spot in with his vocals that night ..)

This thread title had me scratching my head at first... I was thinking: "Why was the singer of Nickelback feuding with the drummer from the Doors?"

My biggest regret is not having seen the original band in the sixties when I had the chance. Could have seen them any time they were in S.F. but just never got around to it. :(

I agree, Krieger is an amazing guitarist. He surely deserves more credit than he's received for his intricate and tasteful playing. And that fingernail picking style of his- wow! Rarely if ever emulated in rock.

Thanks for the tip re. Detroit. I've got just about everything I can find on analog vinyl including SF Matrix and NY Felt Forum and still hoping to get Detroit and Toronto.

I gotta admit .. The lead singer of WILD CHILD tribute band seems a damn fine vocalist to go on the road with these guys..
Let the "now they've become their own tribute band" haters be damed.

Check out this videos on YouTube.

    They're amazingly close to Jim.

    And Jim ain't coming back...

    So there's that...
