Super Moon Sunday

The largest full moon of 2013, a so-called "supermoon," will light up the night sky this weekend, but there's more to this lunar delight than meets the eye.
On Sunday, June 23, at 7 a.m. EDT (1100 GMT), the moon will arrive at perigee — the point in its orbit its orbit bringing it closest to Earth), a distance of 221,824 miles. Now the moon typically reaches perigee once each month (and on some occasions twice), with their respective distances to Earth varying by 3 percent.

We like looking at this stuff too. Sometimes we set the alarm to wake up in the night and look at a comet going by or some such thing!
It just doesn't translate well anyway when not experiencing it in person.
I sure hope the skies are clear here this weekend.
(also - "supermoon" gives way to the image of someone with a really huge ass bending over and sharing it with the world)
But TODAY is SUMMER SOLSTICE. Happy SOLSTICE everyone.
cheers!
that's what im thinking too... but the weather here is predicted to be....to put it mildly, shit. im hoping but im not expecting much.

I guess this doesn't really show how big it is but it's definitely bigger than your usual moon.

The moon was beautiful last night, crystal clear and bright, but didn't appear particularly larger than usual.
