Sacred Cows
Power is a bull with a tough hide and big balls.
Because of its stud value, power will never be castrated.
The progeny of power is massive.
Money is the feed of all cattle:
Fodder for the bulls,
Hay for the cows,
Milk for the calves.
Poverty is a hammer blow to the head
That knows no mercy. Bang on the head
You're dead.
(From Get Into Your Skull, Joe West.)
This fits as well - from A Perfect Circle
Don't fret precious I'm here, step away from the window
Go back to sleep
Lay your head down child
I won't let the boogeyman come
Counting bodies like sheep
To the rhythm of the war drums
Pay no mind to the rabble
Pay no mind to the rabble
Head down, go to sleep
To the rhythm of the war drums
Pay no mind what other voices say
They don't care about you, like I do, like I do
Safe from pain and truth and choice and other poison devils,
See, they don't give a fuck about you, like I do.
Just stay with me, safe and ignorant,
Go back to sleep
Go back to sleep
Lay your head down child
I won't let the boogeyman come
Count the bodies like sheep
To the rhythm of the war drums
Pay no mind to the rabble
Pay no mind to the rabble
Head down, go to sleep to the rhythm of the war drums
I'll be the one to protect you from
Your enemies and all your demons
I'll be the one to protect you from
A will to survive and a voice of reason
I'll be the one to protect you from
Your enemies and your choices son
They're one in the same
I must isolate you
Isolate and save you from yourself
Swayin to the rhythm of the new world order and
Count the bodies like sheep to the rhythm of the war drums
The boogeymen are coming
The boogeymen are coming
Keep your head down, go to sleep, to the rhythm of a war drums
Stay with me
Safe and ignorant
Just stay with me
Hold you and protect you from the other ones
The evil ones
Don't love you son,
Go back to sleep
Pastor Jeremiah Steepek (pictured below) transformed himself into a homeless person and went to the 10,000 member church that he was to be introduced as the head pastor at that morning. He walked around his soon to be church for 30 minutes while it was filling with people for service....only 3 people out of the 7-10,000 people said hello to him. He asked people for change to buy food....NO ONE in the church gave him change. He went into the sanctuary to sit down in the front of the church and was asked by the ushers if he would please sit n the back. He greeted people to be greeted back with stares and dirty looks, with people looking down on him and judging him.
As he sat in the back of the church, he listened to the church announcements and such. When all that was done, the elders went up and were excited to introduce the new pastor of the church to the congregation........"We would like to introduce to you Pastor Jeremiah Steepek"....The congregation looked around clapping with joy and anticipation.....The homeless man sitting in the back stood up.....and started walking down the aisle.....the clapping stopped with ALL eyes on him....he walked up the altar and took the microphone from the elders (who were in on this) and paused for a moment....then he recited
“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
After he recited this, he looked towards the congregation and told them all what he had experienced that morning...many began to cry and many heads were bowed in shame.... he then said....Today I see a gathering of people......not a church of Jesus Christ. The world has enough people, but not enough disciples...when will YOU decide to become disciples? He then dismissed service until next week.......Being a Christian is more than something you claim. I'ts something you live by and share with others.
You can become "burned out" on being asked for $ all the time, but I was surprised that no one gave any $. I would have loved to see video of this to see him try to greet and interact and the reactions.
awesome story with a lesson.
Godfather.
as someone who probably gives more to homeless people than the average person - i would say ... being compassionate and kind is not a virtue of christianity nor religion ...
I'm trying to understand what you wrote...
Are you saying Christianity and religion are not compassionate by nature...that they do not instill those virtues?
or
Are you saying that they don;t have a monopoly on being compassionate...that you dont need to have religion to be compassionate?
...are those who've helped us.
Right 'round the corner could be bigger than ourselves.
Being compassionate, kind and helping people is the absolute foundation of the Christian church I attend. If it weren't that way, I wouldn't participate.
The story above would not happen at my church. Heck, we operate homes for homeless people as well as a home for woment trying to get out of the adult entertainment industry right on our church grounds.

the latter ... it's not to say christians aren't compassionate just simply that compassion as it is described in this story is practiced by all kinds of people of all different beliefs and values ...
having said that - i think the notion that if you are not compassionate doesn't necessarily make you a non-christian ... being christian is not defined by compassion ...
ya ... probably fake ...
But imagine being homeless. Actually stepping out there for 4 days with no roof to cover your head when you sleep at night and left to your own resources to forage for food.
Sometimes we forget that those dirty people we see are people: they were little Davids and little Susans trying to please their teachers with their art work and playing on the playground with their friends. Somewhere along the line... something happened. Their reality was not the future they envisioned for themselves at, say, age 8.
I love buying meals for these people when I can.
I lifted it from Facebook so it's probably fake. Does have a ring of truth to it though.
