Or at least that's what me and my friend told Mike and Jeff when we met them on O'Connell Street today!!!
Just walking along, suddenly I see a guy who looks like Jeff. Then I see a guy who looks like Mike. Then I realised - IT'S JEFF AND MIKE!!!
So, of all things to talk about, we ended up discussing our costumes for a masquerade ball with them, and how big a waste of money the Spire is...:D:D
Really cool guys, real down-to-earth. We shook their hands, didn't waste their time getting autographs or pics (as much as I regret that now...) And we never thought to ask who's opening...:(
I still haven't quite come down off the high it put me on...

  • It was awesome, it has yet to sink in.... All I can really think about is how cool it was and what I should have said.

i talked to them about the spire too!!!!!

i walked up to them just after jeff took a pic of mike at the spire, mike said to me it was pretty cool and i said to him that "most people think its a waste of money", then jeff asked me if there was a skate shop around and i walked with them up to the skate shop at trhe top o connell street (near the bridge)

i got their autograph though i luckily had the new cd in my bag!

I just love the fact that they dress like they're still in sunny America when it's a pretty crappy Irish day:)

i can't even remember what they were wearing apart from they're faces, oh and jeff had a hmv bag in his hands.......i wanted to ask him what he bought but decided against it and jeff had like a toothpick in his mouth!!
  • so, enough about PJ, is Dublin Spire really a colossal waste of money?
You've had a hard time? I've been here five years, they only hung me the right way up yesterday.
  • Yeah, it really is. It was meant to boost the tourist industry, but that didnt pan out. It just gave the tourists something else to see.

That money [it also ran overbudget] could've been used on our terrible Health crisis or education or... well... something GOOD. :)

Mike even said to me "its pretty cool" and i said back "people think its a waste of money!"

and i started talking about how much i think matt's amazing and love his side project but not once mentioning i like mike's and jeff's side projects!!!! i'm a fucking idiot
  • I was basically stumbling over my own starstruck words. I managed to say "I really did not see THIS coming."

To which Mike coolly replied "Neither did we." :D

    What is the spire?

It's a huge metal spire... like a big needle, in the middle of the main street (o'connell st.)... I always wanted to roll two huge balls up to it in the middle of the night!
    JUST PLAY THE F***ING NOTE!!!
  • I was at the Spike (call it by its real name, people!) today! Why didn't I meet Jeff and Mike?! I only live 10 minutes from there.I could've had them back for !!! Damn! I'll have to throw some invitations to them on stage tomorrow - after-show tea and sandwiches at my house! I'm sure they've nothing better to do...

its called the spire ... "The Spire of Dublin" http://www.spireofdublin.com/

and i like it ... dublin needs more landmarks and monuments/sculptures etc. it makes walking through the littered streets that bit more interesting

Officially perhaps, but The Spike is a far better name.
I'll Ride The Wave Where It Takes Me
  • Heard it cost $5 million but there is probably $4 million stuffed inside it (that's what the tour guide said). Also it's the "millennium spire" but it was finished in February of 2003.

But I think it's pretty cool. And so is SpongeBob SquarePants in Gaelic.
