No Ledbetter, 4 in a row!?!?

4 shows in a row without a Ledbetter closer. I like this. Think of how much we would appreciate the song if it became a rare treat.

Also, 4 shows in a row without Black. I'm probably the only one around here that is happy about this. I love the song, but would love it more if it became a little bit more rare.

The did play Black at St. Paul 2 and Ledbetter doesn't really fit in with the short opening set. It's like the sweet good-bye after a long night's work. Plus, they are rocking hard for 90 straight minutes and it's just not a way, to end a grind like that. Ed said something at St. Paul 1 that their job was to warm the crowd up for Petty. I think they see it as something special.
We're still making records for people who listen to it all the way through, eyes closed, in that space.

Exactly, they have to end on a rocking note to get into Petty.

YL is for "goodnight, show over, lets go home" which is not whats happening after the PJ set for these 6 nights

Vegas will get a special show. They haven't closed with Ledbetter in Vegas since 2000 I think. All Those Yesterdays and Yellow Ledbetter will be the last 2 songs in Las Vegas.

Maybe they just didn't want to play that song the last four shows.

    It could be that simple.

In 2003, they played Yellow Ledbetter in Irvine on June 2nd and they didn't play it again untill 10 shows later, about two weeks after Irvine. I always thought that was pretty cool cause I was at Irvine.

I love YLB. I dont mind them ending with it every show because its thier way of saying goodbye. Although, it would be cool if they did YLB and tagged it with brother riff at the end ;)

I wouldn't read too much into this. They don't normally play a song like Ledbetter at gigs like these (opening for folks, or playing festivals).

Ledbetter is a 2nd encore song. these shows are lucky to have one.

It will be back in full force once they start playing on their own again.

But you know, it's funny. I still laugh when people remark about how much ledbetter was played. For the first 10 years of their existence, they barely played it at all.

some of us have followed this band long enough to know their tendencies. I would have been less stunned if they played "Raspberry Beret" in St. Paul than if they had played Ledbetter.

Im not gonna lie, Ive seen PJ 6 times on 5 different tours, and the only time I didnt seem the close with YL was in Toledo when Neil Young closed out the set, and personally, I love hearing it last. I dont know what I would do if it wasnt the last song, I might never leave just because to me that is the only way to say goodbye, I mean most every time I have seen it, it has followed RITFW, Baba or Fuckin Up, all songs that could close, or songs like Porch, Smile, Indifference, have already been played, so whats the big deal. I think most the time when they play it now a days, its not replacing another song, its more like an extra song, and to me, its the Perfect Ending.
words seem so out of place.
