Here in Canada we pay some of the highest Cell Phone/Data fees world wide, plus most are locked into 3 contracts if you go with a subsidized phone. So the news rules is tremendous news.
Rogers had changed their policy on hardware upgrade from 2 years to 3 years ...
So overall I think this is good news for us Canucks ... still don't know if this will bring fees down ... but maybe knowing customers can jump ship after 2 years might bring fees down ... time will tell

It's a good move, in the UK OFCOM stipulate that the contract can't exceed 2 years, so it's quite similar. The roaming charges should be welcomed aswell, because fuck me, some of those bills are scandelous. On the whole, positive, much more to do though
the roaming charges yes ... there has been a lot of stories of people ending up with big cell bills after travelling abroad ... i just shut down all data and use wifi.

Hadfield comes home to $1.37 million Rogers phone bill
KAZAKHSTAN – After five months in space, Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield was shocked to discover his cell phone provider has charged him well over a million dollars for data usage and roaming charges while he was in space.
“This is ridiculous,” said the 53 year-old who recently commanded the International Space Station and a proud owner of an iPhone 5. “I only Instagrammed a few hundred pictures of the sun coming up over the Sahara Desert and a thunderstorm over the Pacific Ocean, posted my videos of me eating in space a few dozen times on Twitter and watched a few YouTube videos of goats that sound like humans and that’s it!”
When asked why he didn’t buy a better data plan, Hadfield responded “I didn’t want to pay for an additional $20 a month rip-off when I’m orbiting the earth in 90 minutes.”
“My parents are going to kill me!” he added.

you and me both. Have to say there is a part of me that likes knowing that when some gombeen updates their facebook page with holiday snaps of the swimming pool, their phone bill will most likely exceed the cost of the holiday, and that does get me through the working day.
But then I'm told every day from the fiancee that I'm a grump, so maybe that's it. I'll have to get my kiscks elsewhere.

Canadians paying 13% more for cell phone service than last year - time to Demand Choice!
http://openmedia.ca/blog/canadians-payi ... and-choice
Canadians are paying 13% more for cell phone service than they did last year – this while Canada’s overall inflation rate holds steady at 1%. That's according to a study released by J.D. Power & Associates.
At the start of 2013, the average monthly cell phone bill in Canada topped $77, an increase of $9 from 2012, according to the study.
These high cell phone bills are largely due to our broken cell phone market, in which three large players control upwards of 94% of services, and where smaller independent players may be on their way out.
It's time to stand up to demand a wireless market with greater affordability and choice by signing the petition at http://DemandChoice.ca

i think the rates are comparable now ... just based on my comps with some friends down south ...
i do think we need to institute nation wide calling here ... i'm not sure how they can justify long distance rates ...
I think they get more bang for there buck ... More data, more minutes, nationwide calling, automatically included voice mail caller display etc..
I got 6 g data but that was a special that was offered ... It's no longer available, but I think south of the border some companies offer unlimited.
