Whilst I understand all their issues with Weiland, I think it's ridiculous of them to go on calling this STP and it seems like all they really care about is the missed opportunities to make money - I can't imagine any of them are on the bread line.
As I see it, since they reformed in 2008 they toured themselves into the ground, playing the same setlist night after night and ultimately burned out. Even when they released a new album they didn't end up playing much of it live, and didn't promote it very well.
Not to defend Scott, because he really does need to get himself to rehab and sort himself out, but I do think this is a really shitty move from the DeLeo's and Kretz. For them to think they can just draft in another singer like Chester Bennington (chosen for his high profile name rather than his suitability in the band) and make an STP record is laughable. This is no more STP than Talk Show or Army Of Anyone was.

Well said, I think its an absolute joke. Weiland is clearly a tit but you cant replace the main guy in a band like that and keep the same name. Purely a money making exercise.
"...though my problems are meaningless....that don't make them go away...."
The most ridiculous part is that they won't even let Scott call himself a former member. I've pretty much lost all respect for the other three after this.

Exactly. Why the hell do they care if he calls himself a former member? That's what he is now. It's not like he is trying to use the STP name. They kicked him out so they should move on. Do their thing and let him do his.

After seeing his band butchering a few STP numbers it may be in his best interest to deny ever being in the band. How could a person that's heard those songs thousands of times think that those rendition were being played right.
I think the Deleo's just beat him to the punch with claiming the STP name.
While it's somewhat misleading to continue to call themselves STP, it is hardly unprecedented in rock history. It worked out well for pink Floyd, ac/dc, & AIC, though we can all agree STP is not anywhere in that league (I've never heard of this new guy and I've hated the 2-3 linkin park songs I've accidentally heard over the years). But, as an attorney, it is my opinion if Scott signed something giving away his rights to referring to STP and was paid some form of consideration, the remaining members are within their rights to sue him.
I saw Scott a few months ago in Houston. I'm not a big STP fan, but I like them and was excited to see him. I've been to hundreds of concerts in my lifetime, and I can honestly say Scott Weiland's Purple to the Core was one of the worst I've ever been to. His band was fucking horrible (think of a shitty band at a bar with no cover charge), he sounded like shit (it was sad), and he didn't know the words to several of the songs (I rarely listen to STP & I knew the words!). We almost left, but we decided to stay to see how bad it could get. It was like watching a train wreck - very sad.

The lead guitarist sounds lost in the beginning of the song and onward, then he sounds like he's just noodling with the guitar at 4 min. Weiland looks and sounds like he's doing karaoke.
And in Wicked Garden posted below...it doesn't even sound like the song is being played correctly, like when advertisers tweak songs to avoid licensing rights.

Here is a review from the Houston Press. It is spot on.
